Laying the groundwork—literally. Wet felting the base for my entry to @feltmakers_ireland "Symbols of Ireland" exhibition, and as always, loving the process (the olive soap makes my hands so soft!). There’s something about the rhythm of felting that makes time disappear (even when I don’t have much of it!). Five days to go, and I can’t wait to see this piece come together. NOTE: The process time in this video has been multiplied by 4.5, so the actual time it took to do this piece was 3 hours, and that's just the base of my idea! 🔹Filzprozess, Schollentechnik🔹 ⠀ Wie ich schon oft erwähnt habe, es ist einer meinen Lieblingsfilztechniken, die nicht nur sehr effektvoll ist und eine tolle Wirkung hat, sondern auch noch richtig Spaß macht ☺️! ⠀ Mein persönliches "magic moment" ist, wenn ich den Filz endlich aufschneiden darf, um die Reservierungsfolie zu entfernen, und plötzlich offenbart sich das, was darunter versteckt worden war! ⠀ ❗Mein Tipp: erst dann aufschneiden, wenn der Filz schon fast fertig ist! Die Reservierungsfolie innendrin muss schon ziemlich gequetscht worden sein, siehe das Video auf der 28 Sekunde! So bekommen sie ohne viel Mühe sehr exakte und stabile Kanten! ⠀ (Musik Ronald Kah) ⠀ ➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖ ⠀ 🔹Felting process, carving technique🔹 ⠀ This is one of my favourite felting techniques, which has not only a great effect, but is also really fun ☺️! ⠀ My personal magic moment is when I finally get to cut open the felt to remove the resist and suddenly what was hidden underneath is revealed! ⠀ ❗My tip: only cut it open when the felt is almost finished! The resist must have been quite squashed inside, see the video on the 28th second! This way you get very exact and stable edges without much effort! ⠀ (Music Ronald Kah) ⠀ ➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖ ⠀ 🔹Процесс работы, прорезная техника🔹 ⠀ Как я уже ни раз упоминала, это одна из моих любимых техник в валянии, которая не только очень эффектна, но и увлекательна ☺️! ⠀ Мой "волшебный момент" - это когда я наконец-то разрезаю войлок чтобы достать блокираторы 😅 и наконец становится видно то, что всё это время было спрятано внутри! ⠀ ❗ Мой совет: разрезайте войлок только тогда, когда он уже почти готов! Блокираторы должны быть внутри уже сильно сжаты, см. видео на 28-й секунде! Так вы получите очень чёткие и стабильные края без особых усилий!

After working on the large layout upside down for several days, we take a big breath, holding our fingers crossed, finally we flip the rug. For several days, I keep telling students to trust the process not to peak - it is so easy to destroy gentle fiber connections by unknowingly folding up the edges. When the piece is rolled up right and carefully rolled, all parts of the "puzzle" stay in place. That’s why receiving recognition from the Feltmakers #feltmakers this year has meant so much to me. 🥹 I also deeply miss my amazing peers (they are the most lovely and creative bunch!) and tutors from the Millinery course at Morley College @morleymillinery.
