Yosemite Firefall: 02/21/2026 - Magical ❄️ Every year in February, something unreal happens in Yosemite! For a few magical minutes at sunset, the light hits at the perfect angle… and the waterfall glows like molten lava. It’s called the Yosemite Firefall 🔥 But here’s what you need to know before you go: 📅 When to visit: Mid–to–late February (usually around Feb 10–25). You need: • Clear skies • Enough snowmelt for the waterfall to flow • Perfect sunset angle It does NOT happen every day — timing is everything. 📍 Where to see it: Best views are from the Yosemite Valley floor near El Capitan Picnic Area. Arrive EARLY — people line up hours before sunset. 🎟 Park Entry: $35 per vehicle (valid for 3 days). During Firefall season, reservations may be required — check the park website before planning. No reservations in 2026. ⏳ Pro tip: Get there 2–3 hours before sunset. Bring warm layers. It gets cold fast at sunset. Save this for next February. Witness it all at once in your life!🔥 #yosemite #firefall #california #travel #yosemitenationalpark

Drove 9 hours, 4 hours of traffic, then 5 miles of running, walking, and jogging so that we shouldn’t miss the firefall view but only to find out we didn’t miss anything after all… because there was literally nothing to miss😂 No snow + No water = No firefall🤷‍♀️🙊 #california #yosemitenationalpark #yosemite #firefall #scenicviews

Yosemite Firefall 02/21/2026 — pure magic in real life 🔥✨ For a few breathtaking minutes, Horsetail Fall turns into a glowing river of fire — and yes, it looks completely unreal. We stood there in total silence as the sun hit the waterfall just right… and suddenly the granite cliffs of El Capitan lit up in the most magical way. It’s one of those moments you can’t fully capture on camera — you just have to feel it. ✨ This phenomenon only happens in February ✨ You need clear skies + enough water flow ✨ Timing is EVERYTHING And when all the conditions align? It’s pure magic. If you’re planning to visit Yosemite National Park for Firefall, arrive early, expect crowds, bring warm layers, and pack patience. It’s 100% worth it. Would you wait hours to see this glow in real life? 🔥👇 Save this for next February and send it to someone who needs to witness this at least once. #Yosemite #YosemiteFirefall #CaliforniaAdventures

The rare Yosemite firefall 🔥 "Firefall happens every February, from mid-February until the end of the month. It's a natural phenomenon where sunset light illuminates a waterfall, creating a brilliant effect like lava. In order for it to happen there's 2 main things that need to align - first, we need enough water flow on Horsetail Fall, and second, we need clear skies at sunset. When I arrived to Yosemite to photograph the firefall, it was cloudy with no signs of clearing. I decided to still give it a try and wait for sunset. After 2 hours waiting for sunset I looked at the horizon and started seeing some glow and clouds breaking apart. Ten minutes later the magic happened!! The sunset light hit Horsetail Fall making it glow like lava! I couldn't believe it was actually happening, it's one of the best shows I've ever experienced!" 🎥+💭: @markian.b #Yosemite #California #waterfall

Here’s everything you need to know about Firefall in Yosemite in 2026 👇🏼 ☀️ What It Is: Firefall is the rare natural phenomenon where Horsetail Fall glows fiery orange as the setting sun hits it just right and it typically happens only in mid to late February, lasting around 5–15 minutes before sunset. 📅 2026 Update: There is no special Firefall permit or timed-entry reservation required this year you just need your regular Yosemite National Park entrance pass to visit during Firefall season. 🌲 Park Entry: Everyone entering Yosemite still needs a valid park pass (daily pass or America the Beautiful annual). No Firefall-specific permit is needed as of early 2026 but things can change, so check before you go. 🏞️ Where It Happens: This magic happens on Horsetail Fall on the east side of El Capitan when snowmelt and clear skies and perfect sun angle align just right. We’ve gone 3x and every year it’s truly unforgettable 😍 🥾 What to Expect: 1️⃣ MASSIVE crowds hundreds if not thousands of people gather early to secure viewing spots. 2️⃣ Folks often arrive hours before sunset. 3️⃣ There’s no guarantee you’ll see it even if you’re there for multiple nights 😅 🚙 Parking & Access: Parking near the viewing area fills fast. You might need to park at Yosemite Falls lot or Yosemite Village and walk ~1.5 miles to the best spots, or take the park shuttle when it’s running. 🌧️ Pro Tip: Firefall only works if Horsetail Fall is flowing and the sky is clear even a little cloud cover can ruin the glow. 🎥 Real Life vs. Social Media: These clips/photos were taken over 3 different years! Is Firefall on your travel bucket list!? 😍

@the.solofoto is capturing the surreal glow of the Yosemite Firefall!😍🔥🌅 🌅 Step into that rare February moment in Yosemite National Park when the sun lines up perfectly with Horsetail Fall and turns it into a river of molten light. 🔥 For a few minutes, the waterfall ignites in shades of gold and ember, glowing like real fire cascading down the granite cliffs of El Capitan. 🌫️ With the cold air settling in, shadows stretching across the valley, and the last sunlight hitting the fall at the perfect angle, it becomes more than a view — it’s a once-a-year phenomenon that feels almost unreal. 📸 It’s quiet, magical, and one of the most breathtaking natural light shows on Earth. Tag someone who needs to see this in person!😍 📍Yosemite National Park, California 🇺🇸 #yosemite #firefall #yosemitenationalpark #california

Yosemite Firefall - Feb 17, 2025 Unaltered iPhone video. I’ve been coming to Yosemite Valley around this time of year for the past couple years hoping to get this condition… took me 4 tries to finally get it , but I heard another guy say that it was his 16th try. It did live up to the hype, and it genuinely was very weird and unique. The lava effect was pretty convincing! What this is is the last bit of light hitting a waterfall to make the water light up red . To see this effect you need Horsetail Falls to be flowing (generally it has to be a warm day with snow in the high country), and the horizon to the west has to be completely clear for sunset. A lot of people show up in hopes of seeing it, almost akin to a sporting event. I’d choose this over any sport, any day. Very cool to see everyone getting excited about a natural phenomenon. Date range that it can happen - mid to late Feb. this week looks to be promising most days. You need reservations for the weekend days. #firefall #yosemitefirefall #yosemite #yosemitenationalpark

Ever seen a waterfall on FIRE? 🔥😍 Every February, the sun’s position falls on Horsetails Falls in a way that makes it look like it’s on fire. This happens ONLY for a few days during sunset and you’ve got to be REALLY LUCKY to see it! I guess we got very lucky, because we saw it 2 days in a row! You’d need a reservation to see the firefall if you’re entering the park on a weekend. You don’t need it if you’re going on a weekday though, and you’ll also beat the crowds this way! Worth it, right? #yosemitenps #yosemitevalley #yosemitefalls #horsetailfalls #firefall #visitsf #californiatrip #californiatravel

H O R S E T A I L /// falls. “It is one of the rarest and most ephemeral of all photographic subjects… Yosemite is a place of revelation and inspiration, and for me, this is a true example of nature’s grandeur.” - Ansel Adams The natural Firefall at Horsetail Fall in Yosemite National Park happens for a brief period each year, typically in mid-to-late February, when the setting sun aligns perfectly with the waterfall. This creates a stunning visual effect where the falling water glows bright orange and red, resembling molten lava. Key Factors for the Effect to Occur: 1. Time of Year: The event usually occurs between February 10 and February 28, peaking around February 17–22. 2. Time of Day: The glow happens just before sunset, usually between 5:25 PM and 5:40 PM (exact timing varies by year). 3. Weather Conditions: • Clear skies are essential. Even a thin layer of clouds can block the sunlight, preventing the effect. • Sufficient water flow in Horsetail Fall is necessary, meaning there needs to be enough snowmelt from El Capitan. In drought years, the effect is minimal or absent. How Long Does It Last? • The glowing effect usually lasts only 10 minutes or less each evening. • The intensity and duration vary depending on atmospheric conditions, water flow, and sun position. Best Viewing Locations: 1. El Capitan Picnic Area – The most popular spot, located along Northside Drive. 2. Southside Drive Pullouts – Another good vantage point with fewer crowds. 3. Near Cathedral Beach – Offers a different angle of the fall. Since the event is highly weather-dependent and attracts many photographers and visitors, arriving early in the afternoon to secure a viewing spot is recommended. 📸: @ando2chill
