MRHenry the food critic did not rate his dinner.
This is the lore of LITTER 🗑️
I gave Henry a LITTER button early on in case he wanted to pull me up on tardiness cleaning the box (he’s well trained, once even peed in the empty box when I forgot to refill it after washing it out).
For months he pressed LITTER when the litterbox was unused, or after I’d cleaned it. Always giving me a Look. Then I saw @elsiewants swearing about an itchy sweater with her LITTERBOX button. And I finally put two and two together.
Was Henry swearing with LITTER? Yes. Yes he was.
This was the first time I caught it on camera. It was the fourth wet food brand we’d tried since the old one changed recipe 😫😭. You can see him glance at his (full) bowl after he presses it. Emphatically.
He’s not the first button user to repurpose a bathroom word, but he did it pretty early. LITTER was his 5th button and he quickly found another meaning for it. And it turns out it’s not only about food.
I’m not quite sure how he’d tell me if anything was actually wrong with the litter box…

PIseriously, why aren't communication buttons touch sensitive?!
Fluent Pet, I love you, but some pets are very soft pawed no matter how much training, teaching, and shaping you do. Some even have disabilities and struggle to push. PLEASE introduce a model that makes the button touch sensitive, or modify the toggles like I did here.
Having to also do shaping for them to shift their weight can slow down progress for animals that are easily discouraged (like Monroe!). I've taught other cats and I know how to show them to press, but Monroe is...very different.
The only thing that is going to work is time and patience and I don't even have that because HE doesn't have the patience and doesn't understand how to press harder, even tho he does it accidentally. Can we make an official model like this?
Also pls note even my "sensitive" buttons are still not sensitive enough and you basically have to just breathe on them. 😂😂

BUJuno uses the combination “potty snuffle” to mean pick up poop (either her or me) and “zoomies” means fast. She has a history of eating poo, and by her telling me there is poop to pick up, I can clean it up before she is tempted to.
This is one of those things that she never could have communicated before buttons, except by actually eating the poop and me stopping her. Thank you @fluentpet for helping us be able to curb this very undesirable behavior!

MAThis is from a couple of weeks ago, after my friend Eve came out to visit. We did a huge rearrangment of the apartment to give me an actual office space. Elsie was not thrilled with all of the changes.
"Frustrated small bed window." I mean...the fact that I'm like, "yeah, let's fix that" and not "hey, good job making a sentence" is an indication of where my life is two years into our button journey. I love that she has agency. Before buttons, she would have just been frustrated and no amount of body language could have told me why.
(For frequent viewers, this was between foster cats so "small" wasn't that.)
