This is the city we know and love. It’s filled with diversity, culture, fellowship, and most importantly freedom. Overreach of the federal government is an insult to our democracy. Our voices matter. Our presence will not be silenced. Our rights will not be ignored . Our statehood shouldn’t be questioned. Prior to this impromptu meeting Thom Tillis wouldn’t say on the record what his vote would be on SJ-102 which blocks DC from using our own money to support children and families via the earned income child tax credit. With reductions in snap and healthcare, this puts further strain on DC families for no reason. Other states have “decoupled” from the federal tax law in order to protect families. And let’s be clear, Congress is only doing this because they can, it has no benefit to them except to hurt DC. This is overreach, this is tyranny and this is how authoritarians rule. #freedc
