MAwayyy back when I worked with ATHR at Frieze No.9 Cork Street in London, assisting with Dana Awartani’s When Fire Loves Water (2022). I spent many quiet hours alone, surrounded by her work—geometry, light, and silence weaving together like a secret language.
There’s a certain tenderness in handling art, in being its caretaker, ensuring each piece is seen, understood, and protected. Appreciative of these days that opened my eyes up to the fact that curating is more than display; it’s about holding space with care and love.
Finally pulling this from the drafts because some moments deserve to be remembered 💭

독립 갤러리 작가는 프리즘과 빛을 주제로
오리가미(종이접기)라는 놀이를 통해
다양한 형태를 다루는 작가에요.
현재는 대만에 거주하며 활동 중인데,
2015년 이후 아시아에 대한 관심이 깊어져
2016년 대만으로 이주한 네덜란드인으로
아트가 좋아서 작업을 하다가 대만인 아내분과
돌연 갤러리를 설립했다고 해요.
아내분은 동양철학과 문학을 바탕으로 갤러리의
방향성과 기획에 핵심적인 역할을 맡고 있어
반가웠던 대화였습니다 !
작가인 Pascal van der Graaf는 네덜란드 전통 회화
기법과 현대적인 접근을 바탕삼아,
프리즘에 투영 된 오색 빛처럼 우리는 삶의 의미를
‘투영’ 에서 찾게 되기 때문에 사실 모든 건
의미가 없다고 하더라구요.
짧은 인터뷰에서 저는 아트가 삶 자체이며
의미를 찾고 공명 하는 아름다움이라고 말했더니
그에게 아트는 nothing. 절대 의미를 찾으려 하지 않고,
knowing : 아는게 싫으며 의미가 없는 게 좋아서
작업을 하신데요. 그냥 대충 사는 라이프가 좋다고 🪭
서양철학은 having을 말하지만
동양철학은 언제나 zero(무)에서 시작하는 걸 이야기하는데
아내분의 영향을 받은 걸까? 싶었고 재밌는 분이었어요 ㅎㅎ
키아프, 프리즈 첫날부터 화제가 된 다양한 성과들 이외
작가 개인이 직접 갤러리를 설립해 참가한 경우는 레어한 케이스라,
대화하면서 아직 시장 이상의 무언가는 존재 하는구나 싶었어요.
빠른 커머스 시장에서 저만의 색과
오타쿠 취향을 지키는 뿌리가 되줬던,
고마운게 많은 마음의 쉘터여서
혼연일체로 오롯이 사랑해 올 수 있었던 공간
한해 한해 지날 수록 더 많은 이들이
이 중요성과 가치를 주목하고 모이는 것 같아 기뻐요 !
물론 페어의 목적은 시장의 부흥이지만,
에너지들이 모일 때 그 시장이 더 커진다고 믿어요.
수요는 대중성에서 이어지니요.
갤러리 오너 지인들이 일로서 마주하는 아트는
순수한 마음으로 사랑할 수 없다는 말에
모두가, 무엇이던 현실과 너무 밀접해지면
그렇다고 말해줬는데,
그도 그 마음을 잃지 않길 바라는 소망을 담아
인사하고 헤어졌어요 ♾🪽
