MYThis girl turns five and a half tomorrow… can you believe it?! Listen to her sweet voice and take a moment to think about just how amazing it is to hear her speak. If you or your child have typically developing speech (like myself and my oldest kiddos), you may not have ever thought just how much coordination has to happen to get a word from brain to mouth, not to mention the coordination of all of the different tongue and mouth muscles to produce that word. For years, Ivy has been in speech therapy both at school and in an outpatient center, working on helping her communicate in many ways… sign language, AAC (speech device), and verbal speech. We have worked for countless hours to help her be able to express her wants, needs, thoughts, and feelings. It hasn’t been easy for any of us, but especially her. We’ve cried together, laughed together, and celebrated together on this journey. She may have a long way to go on her own path towards full communication, but listening to this reminds me just how far she’s come. The best part? It’s not hearing her say “I love you” (even though it’s pretty great) because she shows me how much she loves me every single day. It’s seeing the joy on her face when people understand her. This girl is incredible!

1️⃣ “My child is so beautiful, they will definitely get picked.”
Beauty helps - but it’s never the only thing that matters.
Casting directors also look at confidence, behavior, discipline, energy, and how the child presents themselves in front of people.
2️⃣ “She’ll handle it herself.”
She won’t.
Without preparation, a child walks into casting looking lost, stiff, and forgettable.
Natural beauty does not replace runway skills, posture, expression, and confidence.
3️⃣ “It’s just a hobby.”
Parents often treat modeling lightly, but brands do not.
They notice how serious the child is, how involved the parent is, and whether this is being treated like a real opportunity.
4️⃣ “We’ll understand everything after the first casting.”
By then, it can already be too late.
In modeling, every detail matters from the very beginning: appearance, outfit choice, behavior, confidence, and preparation.
5️⃣ “Let them go to any show.”
Not every runway opportunity is a good one.
Without selection, strategy, and the right environment, a child can waste time, lose confidence, and miss real opportunities that actually matter.
A modeling career is not destroyed by lack of beauty.
It is destroyed by poor decisions, no plan, and parents who underestimate how serious this industry really is.
