TI🌍 Step-by-Step Guide for First-Time International Travellers
Step 1: Reach the airport 3 hours early — international ones take time.
Step 2: Enter through the International Departure Gate after showing passport and ticket.
Step 3: Go to your airline counter, check in your luggage, and collect your boarding pass (for all flights if you have connections).
Step 4: Move to Immigration — they’ll ask a few questions, stamp your passport, and let you go.
Step 5: At Security Check, remove metals, electronics, liquids — keep things handy.
Step 6: After security, find your gate on the screen (it may change — keep checking!).
Step 7: Boarding starts usually 45–60 mins before the flight — show passport and boarding pass.
Step 8: If you have a connecting flight, follow Transfer/Transit signs after landing. Don’t go to Arrivals unless it’s your final stop.
Step 9: Sometimes the next gate is far — keep some snacks, water, and patience 😅
Step 10: Flight delays or tight layovers happen — stay calm, ask the airline desk for help.
Step 11: After reaching your final destination, go through Immigration, collect your luggage, and clear Customs.

DI‼️U.S travelers, this is your warning!
“I could fine you $500 right now and revoke your Global Entry.”
I was standing there waiting for my luggage when a Customs & Border Control officer came up to me, saying the K9 was smelling food and asked if I had anything on me.
Shoot… I forgot I had an apple from Amsterdam that I was supposed to declare at customs.
They took my passport and went through all my bags.
He said if I had lied about the apple, I would’ve gotten a $300 fine.
Then, I could’ve gotten another $500 fine just for having it, plus risked losing my Global Entry because you’re held to a higher standard.
Be sure to declare these upon arrival:
- Purchases over $800
- Cash or traveler’s checks over $10,000
- ALL food, plants, and animal products
- Check the full restricted/prohibited items list at [cbp.gov]
When in doubt, DECLARE IT! It’s not worth the fine or confiscation.
Thankfully I was given a warning since this was my first offense, but it was a huge reminder to take this seriously. I genuinely forgot about the apple, and declaring things wasn’t top of mind since they stopped having you fill out those forms on the plane.

AN🚨 **Travel Update: TSA PreCheck & Global Entry Applications Temporarily Paused** 🚨
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has announced that beginning Sunday at 6:00 a.m. ET, new enrollments for TSA PreCheck and Global Entry will be temporarily suspended due to a partial agency shutdown, according to The Washington Post.
✨ Here’s the reassuring part:
✔️ If you’re **already approved**, your TSA PreCheck or Global Entry benefits remain active.
✔️ Flights are still operating as scheduled.
✔️ TSA security checkpoints are still open.
✔️ This mainly impacts **new applications and interview scheduling** during the pause.
💡 **Helpful Alternative for International Travelers:**
If you’re returning to the U.S. and don’t have Global Entry, you can use the **Mobile Passport Control (MPC)** program!
The U.S. Customs and Border Protection Mobile Passport Control app allows eligible travelers to submit passport and customs information through their phone and access a faster processing lane at many U.S. airports and cruise ports — and it’s **free**. 🙌
It’s not a replacement for TSA PreCheck (which speeds up outbound security), but it *does* help streamline re-entry into the U.S.
