Ever wondered how a single green sea turtle can swim thousands of kilometers just to lay her eggs on the very beach she was born on? The incredible green turtle life cycle begins far out at sea, where adult males and females gather near nesting beaches during mating season (usually November to March in Australia). Males never leave the ocean, while females come ashore to nest—often on the same beach where they hatched decades earlier. After mating offshore, a female turtle drags her heavy body onto the sand at night to nest. She digs a deep hole using her back flippers and lays around 100–120 eggs per clutch, typically nesting up to 6 times per season, spaced about two weeks apart. The eggs incubate for about 6 to 8 weeks, with warmer temperatures producing more females. Then, under the cover of darkness, the tiny hatchlings emerge and scramble towards the moonlit ocean—only 1 in 1,000 will survive to adulthood. Often hatchlings will emerge during the day, especially closer to sunset. However the chances of survival are drastically reduced due to predators such as seagulls and sharks. These survivors may spend 20–30 years at sea before returning to start the cycle again. If you’re in awe of this ancient ritual, help protect their journey—share this reel to spread the wonder and importance of sea turtle conservation. #turtles #turtlemating #australia #greatbarrierreef

A green sea turtle rising for a breath in Raja Ampat. Green turtles can hold their breath for hours while resting, but rise more often when active. I passed this massive one several times throughout the dive, resting beneath a coral bommie and surfacing just once for a breath, before returning to his comfie spot. Green turtles are endangered, which is why marine protected areas like Raja Ampat are so important. The beginning of a new journey 🐢 💚   After incubating beneath the sand for around 45 to 70 days, green sea turtle hatchlings use a temporary ‘egg tooth’ to break out of their shells. They remain hidden for three to seven days as they dig to the surface, after which almost all of them emerge together. 📍Milleyha Beach, Hatay, Turkey #EarthCapture by @mericaktar. . . . . #GreenSeaTurtle #Hatchlings #Turtles

Green sea turtles are making a comeback 🥹 The @iucn_official recently announced that green sea turtles are officially no longer considered endangered.. These incredible little ocean wanderers have been fighting the good fight for decades, and the world’s conservation efforts are finally paying off - yay! 💙 But even with this win, they still need us. So, here’s some small things that make a BIG difference:
☀️ Choose reef-safe sunscreen
🤿 Give marine life plenty of space when snorkelling or diving
🧴 Reduce plastic use & pick up what you can
🪸 Support responsible reef tourism & conservation programs Continued care & protection are what’ll keep our green homies cruising the big blue for generations to come! 🐢 Voiceover by @gimpy 🎥 Follow @jadeexplores for more travel inspiration and adventures ✨ • • #greatbarrierreef #seaturtle #oceanconservation

"Turtle teamwork! Did you know that turtles often hibernate in groups? This social strategy is called "communal brumation." By huddling together, turtles share body heat, conserve energy, and protect themselves from predators. Group hibernation also helps regulate humidity and maintain a stable microclimate, ensuring the turtles' survival during harsh winter conditions.
