ASThe Real Guilded Age: As it Was
If I went to the @metgalaofficial this is exactly what I would have worn! I wanted to see someone in true Gilded Age fashion so I decided to make it happen.
Combinations: #thriftflip I converted a skirt and added Edwardian insertion lace to create the top.
Corset: made by @asta.darling
Corset cover: Antique, found in a trunk of a house built in 1820.
Bustle: Bought this from somewhere, I need a better one.
Petticoat: Antique, found in the same trunk
Dress and bodice: Antiques that I bought at Portobello Market 12 years ago. I’ve carried her around two countries with me and all I know is where she was made and that the person before me took all the trim off.

Disclaimer: Yes, this is a real gown from the late 1890s. I’ve owned it for 12 years and it’s one of my treasures. I bought her from someone who removed all the trim and was going to trash her. She has her own archive box downstairs and I like to take her out and admire her from time to time. This gown had a life before she came into my possession and while I don’t advocate wearing this type of antique everyday, I don’t see the harm in trying her on and giving her a spin before I put her back to bed. She was well loved and altered many times 130 years ago and with any luck I’ll pass her down to whoever comes after me to be loved for more years to come.
