Meet Gular, also known as cluster fig or umber! This ancient Indian superfruit is packed with antioxidants and nutrients, traditionally used in Ayurvedic medicine. 🌿
Scientifically known as Ficus racemosa, Gular has a unique, meatier texture compared to its cousin, the common fig (anjeer), which is larger and sweeter. Gular fruits twice a year, in the summer and late fall, and is abundantly available across practically every state in India. 🌞🍂
I featured Gular in our Wild Food menu at @thebombaycanteen and even did a cooking workshop at @serendipityartsfestival in 2019 with this dish—the Gular Papdi Chaat with Wild fig kachumber, a tomato skin papdi, and frozen yogurt. It was delicious! 😋
