FOTennesseans are reacting as a bill that will allow teachers to carry a gun on campus sits on the governor’s desk. Some school districts are already opting out.
Bill West is a retired SRO and former president of the National School Resource Officers Association.
He’s now the safety director of Cannon County Schools and does not think having teachers carry firearms on campus is a good thing.
“If a teacher is armed and they have a classroom, are they going to leave that classroom to go after a gunman, what if they fail to respond at all?” West questioned.
West explains that is in addition to managing 20 to 30 students.
“The training is what concerns me. So far, I really haven’t seen anything that says they would be required to be on the gun range regularly. It sounds like it’s just regular training,” West said.
Senator Paul Bailey (R-Sparta) says this bill is to help rural counties that don’t have enough school resource officers.
“There are over 500 schools, public schools in the state of Tennessee that still do not have a school resource officer. This is just another tool that will allow some of those rural districts to be able to qualify someone,” Sen. Bailey emphasized.

JEThe FBI has released a new timeline of events regarding the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump. Investigators say the suspect, who they describe as a loner but highly intelligent, went to great lengths to conceal his plans. The FBI believes Thomas Matthew Crooks used aliases to purchase firearms supplies and materials to build explosive devices over the past year. They also say he surveilled the rally site and practiced using the same AR-15 style rife at a gun range leading up to July 13th. On the day of the shooting, Crooks bought ammunition from a Butler gun store. He returned home and then left again, flying a drone at the rally site. A short time later, local police identified him as a suspicious person. Texts between local law enforcement obtained by Senator Chuck Grassley appear to show a picture taken of Crooks with a local SWAT member writing, “If you wanna notify SS (secret service) snipers to look out, I lost sight of him.” SWAT member Jason Woods told ABC News they were supposed to have a face-to-face briefing with Secret Service before the rally, but it never happened. GILabour strongly supports shutting down gangs such as the Comancheros. There has been a three year targeted effort by Police to shut this gang down. It does seem strange that the Minister of Police can’t recall if gangs have been practicing their shooting skills on a gun range. Especially given Nicole McKee now wants to limit Police power over these ranges.
