💡If we continue to underestimate children and how much they can understand, we will keep transmitting the same wounds that were passed on to us❤️‍🩹 🔗RESPONSE FLEXIBITY is our ability to choose how we respond to life’s inevitable ups and downs — its disappointments, triumphs, and challenges. As @gabormatemd explains in his book The Myth of Normal 📖 response flexibility is linked to the mid-frontal regions of the cerebral cortex — particularly the prefrontal cortex, which is involved in regulation, decision-making, and integrating memory with present-moment awareness. No infant is born with this capacity. A baby’s behaviour is governed by instinct and reflex, not conscious choice. The freedom to choose how we respond develops as the brain matures. The earlier and more severe the trauma, the less opportunity there is for response flexibility to be properly encoded in the brain’s circuits. Instead, it becomes limited — even impaired. The individual can become stuck in predictable, automatic defensive reactions, especially under stress 🌀 👉Emotional trauma can pull us back into these early patterns of responding because, as children, we are entirely dependent on our environment. For the sake of survival, an infant adapts their behaviour to what feels safe — to preserve connection, to maintain love, to secure protection 🙇🏻‍♀️ What we often interpret as personality is, in many cases, adaptation 👁 In the video, the baby’s reaction is not “choice” — it is instinct and reflex in action, exactly as Maté describes. It’s the nervous system doing what it must to survive. #healinginprogress #emotionaltrauma #behaviourpatterns #themythofnormal #gabormaté

I shared this on my stories, but I think it's so important to be open about grief and depression. This is grief. My grief. It lives in my body and shows up out of nowhere. It has attached itself to me, going with me everywhere, a part of every second of my day. I know you come to my account for budgeting, investing, saving, and paying off debt content. But I would be lying if I said that this grief, and the moments of depression that come with it, don’t affect every part of my life. There are days when being unmotivated is an understatement. Days when my finances are the last thing I want to think about. Days when I have no energy to check in on my spending or set new financial goals. To be honest, after losing her, I have had a hard time setting bigger goals for myself. Grief and depression make it hard to concentrate some days. And it doesn’t just stay in one place, it filters into everything. Even my relationship with money. Because money and personal finance are not isolated. Like the rest of life, everything is intertwined. One thing affects another. The bad, just like the good, trickles into every aspect of your life. My mom was my safe person. And when you lose your safe person, something changes in you. The world can feel less stable. Less certain. There’s a loss of grounding, of comfort, of emotional safety. You can feel more anxious, more on edge, and more alone, even in rooms full of people. Security no longer feels like it’s about having enough money. I wanted to share this moment with you. The truth about grief and depression. How even after they’re gone, the smallest realizations look like this. For me, it’s taking one step forward, even if it’s small. It’s tackling one small task at a time, even while I’m still trying to figure out how to live with a pain that feels unbearable. It’s about living and honoring her, because I know that’s what she would have wanted. It's about being the person she would be proud of. If you are also here, taking it one day at a time, stumbling and trying to find your footing, you are not alone. #griefjourney #healinginprogress #lifewithgrief #onedayatime #realandraw

My therapist taught me this and it stopped me from spiralling so I want to share it with you. Your body doesn’t just “heal” overnight… it softens when it finally feels safe… and when it does? it can look and feel like everything is falling apart… • crying over nothing • random waves of anger or sadness • feeling exhausted but wired at the same time • old memories hitting you out of nowhere • needing space from people, noise, everything • your body feeling tight, heavy, overstimulated • suddenly not tolerating things you used to accept and here’s the part no one talks about… that’s not you getting worse, that’s you coming out of survival mode. your body is like… “hey, we don’t have to hold this in anymore” healing isn’t always peaceful. sometimes it’s messy, emotional, and inconvenient… but it also means you’re finally in a place where you can release so if you feel like you’re unraveling lately… you’re not losing yourself you’re meeting a version of you that doesn’t have to just survive anymore. ❤️‍🩹 If you’re in a similar season of healing from heartbreak and generational trauma, follow along and join my journey of creating a beautiful life even in the midst of the mess. #motherhoodunfiltered #singlemama #movementismedicine #healingoutloud #healinginprogress

GOD IS SO GOOD! This is real. I heard it with my own ears. Went from Stage IV to Stage III. The liver metastasis they were concerned about came back not cancerous. That’s what changed my staging. I’m not confused about what this is. GOD works miracles. And He keeps showing me how highly favored I am. I’m doing the work, I’m showing up, but I know who’s behind this. This is just the beginning. #godisgood #faithoverfear #cancerjourney #healinginprogress #testimony

After two months of nonstop bleeding post-miscarriage, I had to get a hysteroscopy to remove retained tissue. And what was the only thing that distracted me from the weight of it all? Talking about @thesummeriturnedpretty with the doctors and nurses and somehow starting a poll to see who was Team Conrad vs. Team Jeremiah. 😂 (Spoiler: nobody had watched the show yet lmao) The last time I was strapped down for an operation was during my C-section with Winston and I had a full-blown panic attack on the table. So this time, right before they sedated me, I found myself quietly fighting back tears. I kept thinking…this is the last physical connection I’ll have to this pregnancy. Cut to the morning after: I still feel a strange mix of emptiness and hope. But physically, I’m feeling great. No cramping, light spotting, and a huge sense of relief that it’s finally done. Surgery went super well. My doctor, Dr. Madar, and the entire team at The Jewish General Hospital @ciussscentreouest were INCREDIBLE!!!! Truly can’t thank them enough! If you’re going through something similar, just know: the surgery is manageable, and the physical recovery is surprisingly easy. It’s the emotional healing that takes time. And that’s okay. Sending you SO much love❤️‍🩹 #MiscarriageRecovery #Hysteroscopy #TSITP #TeamJeremiahOrConrad #ItGetsBetter #MillennialMom #healinginprogress

Top 5 Mistakes After a Knee Replacement 👇🏽 I’m 6 weeks post op from my 2nd TKR and this is what I know to be true from personal experience. 1️⃣ Over doing it - aggressive physical therapy is hurting your recovery. It can cause setbacks, pain and stiffness. 2️⃣ Skipping Physical Therapy - failing to perform daily, gentle range of movement exercises leads to poor range of motion. 3️⃣ Mismanaging Pain Medication - stopping pain meds too soon can make rehabilitation really hard - excessive pain hinders movement and just makes you miserable. Don’t chase pain. 4️⃣ Improper Elevation - placing pillows directly under the knee (instead of under the ankle) can lead to hard-to-fix flexion. 5️⃣ Missing Follow-up Appointments - skipping scheduled check-ups prevents clinicians from identifying issues like improper healing. #totalkneereplacement #surgeryrecovery #healinginprogress #painmanagment #physicaltherapy

I’m cancer free… and somehow still sitting here, hooked up to chemo, oxygen, pre meds. That part confuses people. Honestly, sometimes it confuses me too. After my first clear scan, I sat with my team and it was okay, we’re happy but we’re not done. It was more like, “ok… next chapter in this book.” This was always the plan. From the very beginning conversations…. 5 years. We planned to space, pivot and do whatever needed to be done over the course of 5 years. The goal. And probably not even the finish line. But the goal. Even now.. NED. CA markers at their lowest. A negative Signatera. Nothing is wrong. This isn’t because we found something. This is what staying cancer free looks like for me. It’s the part no one is talking about… the in-between where you’re healthy but still showing up, still checking, still protecting what we’ve really fought for. So I sit here, not out of fear… but out of pure intention. It’s surveillance. And I’m thankful even when I feel I’m sitting in two different life’s❤️

Being a hyper-independent woman means you’ve spent years becoming your own safety net building your own peace, solving your own problems, celebrating your own wins, and learning to be okay with doing life alone if that’s what it takes to protect your peace. It’s not that you don’t want love it’s that you’ve learned not to depend on it for survival. You’ve outgrown the need to be saved. What you need is to be seen. So when a man comes into your life who doesn’t shrink in the presence of your strength… who doesn’t mistake your independence for coldness or pride… who sees everything you are and doesn’t feel the urge to control or compete but instead offers support without condition, care without ego, and love without needing to be needed that is a rare kind of peace. It’s not about needing someone to complete you. It’s about someone who respects that you’re already whole and still chooses to pour into you anyway. Someone who looks at your self-sufficiency and says, ‘I know you’ve got it but you don’t have to do it alone.’ That kind of love is not a weakness. It’s a sanctuary. And for a woman who’s spent so long being her own everything, finding that kind of partner is not just romantic it’s revolutionary ✨ #love #hyperindependence #independent #independentwoman #healinginprogress #healinginlove #strongyetsoft #securelove #emotionalinteligence #eq #strongwoman #highvaluewoman #feminity #woman #parati #growthmindset #dating #healthy #healthymasculine #healthylifestyle

Completely isolating you from friends is one of the classic tactics used by abusers. It’s a dangerous form of coercive control. When you’re not allowed to see or speak to your loved ones, you’re far easier to gaslight and manipulate. They do this to: ➤ Undermine your confidence (without others to reflect your worth, you begin to doubt yourself) ➤ Distort your perception (gaslighting thrives in isolation) ➤ Control the narrative (you only hear their version of reality) ➤ Wear down resistance (without support, they can override your internal voice) If this feels familiar, you’re not alone. Freedom and healing are possible. 🙏🏼🤍 #narcisisticabuse #survivors #healinginprogress
