‼️The summer of 2023 was a hard and lonely one for me. So much was changing with my body but I kept ignoring the changes thinking I was just stressed and worn out. For me, these “symptoms” were my bodies warning signs that something wasn’t right…. Instead of dealing with what was going on, I hid it really well. I would put this smile on and act happy but behind closed doors I was crying, depressed and struggling with my relationships. 👉🏻Anxiety, stress and depression are just some of the common symptoms many women experience in perimenopause ‼️But before you keep reading, LIKE, COMMENT & SAVE 👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼 Last summer, before I knew I was in perimenopause I was really struggling. I was worried about everything, and often times would wake up in the middle of the night with heightened anxiety about things that I couldn’t control but couldn’t stop worrying about. I would walk around for hours in the middle of the night anxious and stressed. I finally found out later, I had high cortisol levels. If you can relate, this post is for you. High cortisol levels will reduce your TSH and it won’t tell your thyroid gland to produce more T4. High cortisol will also affect the conversion of T4 into T3 which is your active hormone. If you have chronic stress, your cortisol will be too low for a period of time which heavily affects your immune system, lead to elevated antibodies and decreases the effectiveness of making thyroid hormones. Remember a little bit of cortisol is okay but during this time of year our stress levels tend to get sky high. If all of a sudden you’re feeling puffier after workouts, or the day after. If you’re feeling like you’re gaining weight out of no where but nothing has changed. If you’re more irritable and not sleeping great. Always start with working on your cortisol levels! Many people are still doing HIITs and bootcamps during this time of year. Love that for you, but remember if you’re already stressed out with this time of year AND stressing your body out with HIITs and intense workouts, it’s going to be counterproductive!
