The city of Rhodes has been continuously inhabited since at least the Classical period. Its urban fabric contains successive layers of Hellenistic, Roman, Byzantine, Hospitaller, Ottoman, and modern construction. Discoveries such as this are not anomalies but evidence of uninterrupted urban life spanning more than two millennia. What makes this site notable is not the presence of ruins, but their visibility. The remains are not confined to a museum. They exist within the daily rhythms of the modern city, where contemporary commerce unfolds above ancient foundations. In Rhodes, as in much of Greece, the past is not separated from the present. It is structurally embedded within it.
