Storm season, UV, flogging in a squall, a loose sheet, a furler that decides to play up while you’re not there — sails get damaged when no one is watching them. And the bonus? Every time you take them down you automatically give everything a once-over. Stitching, UV covers, luff tape, sheets, shackles, furlers. Small problems are easy to fix when you catch them early. It’s not a dramatic sailing tip. It’s just one of those quiet habits that saves money, saves stress, and keeps your sails lasting years longer. A thru-hull fitting creates a controlled, watertight opening in a boats hull for essential functions aboard, yet requires regular inspection for safety as they are critical failure points. While working on some installations, we got a little piece of hull that indicated just how thick the boats in our fleet were.
