One student wrote, “if one country is canceled all of us should be too… it’s only logical because we’re the same region.” Others described the emotional strain of continuing to study amid instability, with one saying, “I can barely study… I’m so distracted because of everything.”
Concerns have also emerged about the academic impact of the decision. Some students fear that alternative grading methods in the UAE could skew results, with one comment noting, “their grades will likely be inflated… and thus grade boundaries will be higher.” This has led to anxiety among those still taking exams, who worry they may be unfairly disadvantaged.
Reports suggest that countries including Bahrain, Kuwait, and Jordan are continuing with in-person exams, further intensifying calls for a more unified regional approach. Critics argue the situation contradicts the IB’s commitment to fairness, with one student stating, “IB preaches to be fair… but they’re not taking into consideration our countries.”

NEBREAKING: IB exams have officially been cancelled worldwide due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
For the first time in the history of the International Baccalaureate, all May session exams are not going ahead, affecting over 170,000 students across more than 150 countries.
Instead of written examinations, the IB is awarding grades using a combination of internal assessments, coursework, predicted grades, and historical school data. The organisation says this approach ensures results are “fair, robust and consistent” despite the unprecedented disruption to schooling.
The decision follows months of school closures, lockdowns, and unequal access to online learning, with the IB stating that holding exams would be neither safe nor equitable for students globally.

MATH 4 STUDENTS
You do textbook questions and teacher;s homework. These are great for building fundamentals. But here’s the trap: When test day comes, the questions are way harder than what you trained for. Why? Because you’ve only been honing in on basics, while your teacher is pulling questions directly from past papers. You’re training with Level 1 questions, but the test is giving you Level 10 questions. That’s why you score low. It’s not that you can’t do math; it’s that you’re studying the wrong material entirely.
MATH 5-6 STUDENTS
You’ve realised the textbook isn’t enough, so you level up to online resources like Revision Village, thinking it’s the key to acing school tests. It helps, which is why you’re scoring 5s and 6s, but here’s the catch: again, your teacher pulls questions directly from real IB past papers. These online platforms legally cannot provide those exact questions, so they create their own “inspired” versions. They are very similar, which is why you’re passing, but they aren’t exactly IB questions. That slight mismatch is the wall you keep hitting. You’re close, but you can’t break through to that final top mark because you still aren’t practicing the real thing.
MATH 7 STUDENTS
They ignore the guesswork and go straight to the source. They study using extracted past paper questions every single question topic-sorted, pulled from 15+ years of real IB exams. This means every problem you train from now on directly mirrors what you’ll see on your school tests, because that’s literally where teachers copy their questions from. You’re not just practicing math; you’re practicing the questions and difficulty level of the test. Stop practicing “inspired” questions and start practicing the real ones.

A 6 no longer felt “safe.”
It felt unacceptable.
And that’s the point.
If a 6 feels like success, you’ll stay average.
If a 6 feels like failure, you’ll improve.
Standards rewire behavior.
When your standard is perfection, you work differently.
You revise deeper.
You fix weaknesses instead of ignoring them.
You hold yourself accountable every single day.
So reprogram your mind.
Don’t accept “almost.”
Don’t celebrate “close enough.”

If you want to use the stimulus to properly answer the questions for paper 1, it’s really important to keep in mind assessment objectives. Here’s a breakdown of how you should answer each question:
➡️Question 1: Sources should be used for identifying the main political issue/viewpoint expressed in a particular written source or by describing the political information in a visual or table-based source in question 1.
➡️Question 2: Primarily focus on the source/sources but also draw on other supporting examples from their study of global politics where relevant.
➡️Question 3: You should focus on comparing and/or contrasting points in the sources but can make use of your wider study of the subject to provide context if relevant.
➡️Question 4: For the last question, synthesise and evaluate evidence from the sources and your study of the prescribed content and key concepts of the course.
