The Iditarod is a bucket list adventure for so many people, and the fact that we’ve been to the start twice is a blessing not lost on me. It’s truly such an Alaskan experience. Planes land on the ice nearby, snow machines zip to and fro. Kids hand out full-sized Snickers bars as a parting gift to mushers as they slide past. Folks cook hotdogs over fires and throw back a couple of beers. (They’ll be happy to give you one if you ask.) It’s basically tailgating Alaska style, but instead of a game that will end in a few hours, they’re sending off 38 brave men and women on a 1,000 mile race. If you’ve ever wanted to experience @theiditarod for yourself, why wait? We’re only an hour from Willow! Plan your trip now to see the last great race on earth! Best of luck to all the mushers out there tonight. May you be safe, warm and focused. Oyvind got left in Safety with a sore hindend. Jeff said he was working hard up all the Topkok hills! He will join us in Nome later today. Good work, team!!! 🖤🌲

Another Iditarod finish in the books! I could not be more proud of this team of dogs for what we accomplished together in this race. Each dog performed and persevered through some incredible challenges . It was a cold and windy race from the beginning with lots of soft snow along the way. This team was comprised of 8 dogs who are just 1.5 years old and had never run a single race. Only 5 dogs in the team had ever run a race so we used the first 300 miles to train the dogs and get them into a nice easy rhythm . It was so awesome to see these inexperienced race dogs learn and grow along the trail as the miles stacked up. I stuck to a schedule for running and resting that turned out to work very well for this young team. More shorter runs and longer rests than I’ve done with veteran dogs in the past. This style of racing makes it much easier on the dogs but it’s much harder on the musher. With such a young team, Our goal was always a solid finish, building for the future with the young dogs. It turned out we still ran a competitive race even with such a young team! I have so much gratitude for all the trail breakers, volunteers, vets , sponsors, family friends and especially for Martin and Kathy @martinbuserhtk . Now time for some much needed rest and recovery! #alaska #iditarod #dog #team #travel
