The book narrates story of 3 sisters, Priya, Deepa and Jamini, who were compelled to take different paths due to rising turbulence in the country during partition of India. A path which was not an easy one for the 3 sisters as they see themselves separated from each other. Priya, the one who wanted to follow in her Baba's footsteps and become a doctor. Deepa, the one who was in love with the leader of Muslim league. Jamini, the one who always craved for attention and love. She was jealous of her sisters. When Nabakumar, their father, dies, they must do something to survive. It is that time they understand what it means to be independent and the price one has to pay for it. Compelled to make difficult choices the 3 sisters are torn between love and duty. ___ #bookreview The author has weaved a beautiful story taking Independence as the base. She has brought out the emotions so well. The tension is palpable. The story flow is as smooth as the sand in the hourglass and there is no visible strain in her writing. There is so much of emotions oozing out of the words. The characters and situations sound realistic. She highlights the horrors of partition quite well. The hindu muslim enmity. The longing for loved ones. The love for nation. Sisterhood. I love how she has made use of bengali patriotic songs in the book which enhances the reading experience. Towards the end the book also gets tense and thrilling. One thing i loved the most is how she builds each of the three main characters so unique. I just cant draw in words how much good the book is. It is one of my memorable reads now. I highly recommend it. Anyone can read it, even beginners. Lastly, let me appreciate the beautiful hardcover..the design and the choice of colours is best.
