Ink samples from @romanticizedhabits (thanks Maria! 🫶🏻) showed up and it felt like the perfect excuse to finally start an ink swatch journal. I’ve been sitting on this Galen Leather 1870 marbled notebook for a couple years and realized it makes a great fountain pen ink swatch book. Also spending time learning better control with my Kakimori bullet nib, which is quickly becoming one of my favorite tools for ink swatching and drawing. Plus using my Nagomi Woodworks inks sample holder. One is the most beautiful and functional things in my studio. No rules. Just fountain pen ink swatches, sketching, and experimenting with ink.

No plan, just relaxing ink swatches and loose sketches to learn better dip pen control. Possibly too relaxed though. The sketches were not landing today. No undo button when you’re swatching fountain pen ink in a journal. Thankfully the ink colors are gorgeous and hide most of the crimes. Still loving this Galen Leather ink swatch notebook as a place to experiment with ink samples, sketching, and fountain pen ink testing.

A quick flip-through of my recent swatch dots. Thinking up page themes allows you to adjust the pages to your collection and not so much the other way around. I use a small jar to stamp the ink rings, then fill the rings with water swirls to pull out the chromatography a bit. It's super simple and relaxing. The ink brands and names are written with Platinum Chou Kuro waterproof black. #flipthrough #journalflipthrough #inksampling #fountainpenink
