VI✨Currently on the easel!! Using what I call the “Van Gogh technique” in Layer 1 - I’m simply establishing composition, movement and basic color.
…What is the Van Gogh technique? Van Gogh’s style is one of the most recognizable in art history—alive, emotional, and intensely expressive. He often applied paint directly from the tube or with heavy loading on the brush. He painted in the impasto technique - This created a thick, textured surface where the strokes themselves became sculptural. His strokes were placed to suggest motion and energy.
I do the Van Gogh technique by color blocking and using a crusty old fan brush wet over wet. Establishing direction and movement will be pivotal in this piece as I add more layers. I love Van Gogh, if you haven’t noticed.
I still have more work to do, so this painting will obviously develop further. But it’s fun to share the thought process behind the piece as I go through it. Stay tuned to see how it comes out!

MATimelapse making ‘Colour Drip’ I love making the Colourwave style as I really only have one session to get the base layer applied, it’s about an 8 hour process and all in the one hit.
