After 12+ years in recruiting, I can usually tell in 10 minutes who’s getting the offer. Top candidates consistently do these 5 things differently: 1️⃣ They come prepared for the person. They know the interviewer’s name. They’ve looked them up on LinkedIn. They understand how that role connects to the team. Opening with, “I saw you moved from engineering into product. I’d love to hear how that shaped this team.” That’s signal. 2️⃣ They treat it like a conversation. They engage. They build on answers. They don’t sit back and wait. Hiring managers remember how you made them feel. 3️⃣ They ask clarifying questions. “Are you looking for a leadership example or a cross-functional one?” “Is this about speed or long-term impact?” Five seconds of clarity can turn a good answer into a great one. 4️⃣ They use CARL, not vague storytelling. Context. Action. Result. Learning. That last piece separates strong candidates. Companies want learn-it-alls. 5️⃣ Their best questions come from the interview itself. Not something Googled. Something you heard. “You mentioned stakeholder alignment was tough last quarter. What shifted?” Now you’re memorable. And your thank-you note writes itself. Most people think interviews are about saying the right things. They’re about signaling the right behaviors. If you want to become the candidate hiring managers remember… DM me OFFER. And send this to someone interviewing this week. #jobsearch #interviewtips #careergrowth #midcareer #hiring

Here are 5 common interview questions and how to answer them intentionally 👇 1. What’s your greatest weakness? ❌ Don’t say: I don’t give a real weakness that will make you sound unfit for the role. ✅ Instead say: I sometimes get caught up in the details, but I’m working on balancing that by using tools to keep me on track and improving my time management. 2. Why did you leave your last job? ❌ Don’t say: Any negative reasons (e.g. issues with your manager, team, or company). ✅ Instead say: I was looking for opportunities that better aligned with my long-term career goals and allowed me to take on more responsibility and challenges. 3. Where do you see yourself in 5 years? ❌ Don’t be: Too vague — but you also don’t need a detailed roadmap. ✅ Instead say: In five years, I see myself growing within this company, taking on leadership responsibilities, and continuing to develop my skills in [specific area]. I’m excited to contribute to the team’s success. 4. Why is there a career gap on your resume? ❌ Don’t say: I was just taking some time off because I couldn’t find work. ✅ Instead say: During the gap, I focused on developing new skills, worked on freelance projects, and gained insights that have made me even more eager to return to a full-time role. 5. What are your hobbies or interests? ❌ Don’t say: I don’t really have any hobbies, I just work all the time. ✅ Instead say: Outside of work, I enjoy [describe hobby]. This activity helps me develop skills like [mention relevant skills] and aligns well with the company’s values and culture. Interviews aren’t about lying. They’re about framing your story in a way that makes sense to the employer. Follow @Jonathanwordsofwisdom for more!👀💡 Many job posts online were never meant to be filled. These are called ghost jobs. They are roles companies publish even when no hiring is planned. The scary part is that any listing you see could be misleading. Here is how to spot them: 🚩The job has been posted for months with no updates. 🚩The same role keeps showing up again and again. 🚩You apply and hear nothing back, no movement, mo clarity. I tested this myself. I applied to roles at companies I knew were not actively hiring. Others applied too. Nothing happened. Yet the postings stayed live across job boards. Job platforms may show reposts or recruiter activity, but that does not always mean someone is actually hiring. The key takeaway is to do your homework before applying. Pay attention to patterns. Trust your instincts. If something feels off, it probably is. 🚩After 3 rounds of interviews, “we’ll let you know” is not an answer. 📌Most candidates go silent here. That’s the mistake. 💡This is exactly where you lose your leverage - not in the interview, but after it. 👀HR is watching how you handle uncertainty. Candidates who follow up professionally are remembered. Candidates who just wait are forgotten. ✨You deserve a timeline. Ask for it. ✅ What to say instead: “Thank you for the opportunity. Could you share the expected timeline for next steps? I want to make sure I’m available and plan accordingly.” ✨That’s it. Confident. Professional. Not desperate. 💾 Save this before your next interview - you’ll need it. 📲 Share this with someone who’s currently waiting to hear back. 💭Comment TIMELINE and I’ll share the full follow-up script for if they don’t respond even after this. How to prep for an interview in under 1 hour ✅ Send yourself this post so you don’t lose it. 1️⃣ (10 min) Do a gap analysis: Copy the job description and paste into a google doc. Form there highlights the bullet points you have (green) vs don’t have (red) from the job description. Under each one of the ones you have, add examples when you showed those skills (ex: managed multiple projects). For the ones you don’t have, add anything that has overlap with those skills. 2️⃣ (10 min) Research the company: Don’t just skim the website, dig deeper. Use ChatGPT with a prompt like: “I’m interviewing a [Role] at [Company]. Tell me everything I need to know for the interview. What are the top priorities and challenges for [Company] in 2025?” Look for product launches, leadership updates, press releases, recent news, and how they make money. Show you understand their world. 3️⃣(10 min) Find the likely questions: Head to Glassdoor and look for real interview questions from that company. Then put together in a doc the 10 most common behavioral questions to start preparing for them (like: Tell me about a time you failed). Pro tip: Don’t memorize the script. Prepare 3 stories that you can repurpose across a few questions. 4️⃣ (20 min) Practice your answers: For behavioral interview questions use SAR: Situation, Action, Result. To prepare, use tools like ChatGPT to test your answers. Prompt idea: “Give me feedback on this answer using the SAR method. Here’s the question and here’s my answer…” 5️⃣ (10 min) Prep 3–5 smart questions to ask them: Asking high performer questions is key. For example: 1. What are the top 2 traits that make people most successful in this role? 2. What’s the biggest challenge your team is facing today that I can come help solve? 3. What does a high performer look like in the first 90 days? This is your chance to show you’re not just job hunting, you’re intentional. One question that catches so many people out in interviews is this. “You’ve only been in your current role for 6 months. Why are you leaving?” And this is where people panic and start explaining everything. Talking about bad managers. Low pay. Or how the company was toxic. But strong hiring managers are not interested in workplace drama. They care about how you think. The key is to position it as progression not escape. Instead of focusing on what you are leaving, focus on what you are moving towards. Show that you explored your options internally, realised where you want to take your career long term, and that this opportunity aligns better with your strengths and growth. Keep it calm. Keep it intentional. Keep it future focused. That is how professionals move in interviews. I broke into tech sales with zero experience and have now helped 100+ women do the same and land high paying remote roles. If you want the exact step by step training, comment TECH and I will send it to you. #interviewtips #careeradvice #techsales #jobsearch #interviewquestions

Here is the exact 60-Minute Emergency Protocol I recommend to candidates who get a last-minute call: ⏱️ 0-10 Mins: Flash Research (The “3-Sentence Rule”) Don’t read their whole blog. • Google the Company: Find their latest press release or news. • The “Grandma Test”: Can you explain their product/service in 3 simple sentences? • The Hook: Find 1 recent “win” or “challenge” they posted about to mention early on. ⏱️ 10-20 Mins: The 3 “Safety Net” Stories You don’t need 10 stories. You need 3 flexible ones that fit 80% of questions: 1. The “Fixer” Story: A time you solved a complex problem. 2. The “Ally” Story: A time you worked in a team or managed conflict. 3. The “Growth” Story: A time you failed + exactly what you learned. ⏱️ 20-35 Mins: The Non-Negotiables Practice these 3 answers out loud (don’t just think them): • “Tell me about yourself.” (Keep it professional, not personal). • “Why do you want this role?” (Connect your skills to their pain points). • “Why are you a strong fit?” (Give them ROI/Results). ⏱️ 35-45 Mins: Flip the Script Interviewers judge the questions you ask more than the answers you give. Prepare these two: • “How is success measured in this role in the first 6 months?” • “What is the biggest challenge the team is currently facing?” ⏱️ 45-60 Mins: The AI Power Move (See Prompt Below) 👇 Use your remaining time to let AI predict the curveballs. 🤖 The “Flash Prep” AI Prompt Copy/Paste this into ChatGPT: “I have a job interview in 60 minutes for a [Job Title] role at [Company Name]. Here is the Job Description: [Paste JD]. 1. Summarize the company’s biggest strategic goal right now based on their public info. 2. Give me the 3 most likely ‘curveball’ interview questions they will ask me based on this specific JD. 3. Give me one ‘smart question’ to ask the interviewer that shows I understand their industry challenges.” 🎁Want the cheat sheet version of this?
