❓Do you really know the Chinese first tone❓ In this video, I explain the importance of paying attention to different aspects of Mandarin Chinese pronunciation. As an example, I say the sentence “他天天喝咖啡”（all pinyin in 1st tone) with different intonations and rhythms to convey the message. Although the word “咖啡” has the same tone on both syllables, I explain that the first syllable should be pronounced lightly and the second syllable should be stressed. Moreover, I mention that the phrase “喝咖啡” consists of three characters and follows the “middle-light-heavy” tone pattern.
