Which decrease do you prefer? I almost always use the invisible decrease since I think it looks neater and more like a single crochet stitch. It also adds less bulk since we are going through the front loops only and can help create less gaping holes when decreasing at the end of a project. 💗 However, sometimes I use a traditional decrease especially if I’m making a project with the back loops only.

Welcome to another #JustAtipTuesday - Today I’m showing you how to eliminate gaps and make your decreases look seamless using the invisible decrease technique. In a standard decrease, where you crochet two stitches together you would: insert hook into first stitch, draw up a loop, then insert hook into second stitch before finishing your decrease. This technique is great when working in rows or with mix of taller stitches. However, when it comes to amigurumi, the standard decrease becomes quite noticeable. Not only that but it also leaves larger gaps allowing the stuffing to show. To avoid this and make your decreases blend with the rest of the stitches, use the invisible decrease method: - Insert hook into front loop of the first stitch, and into front loop of the second stitch (3 loops on hook) yarn over, pull through two loops, yarn over and pull through remaining two loops. #theknottyboss #crochetsecrets

Welcome to another #JustATipTuesday - Today we’re talking invisible sc decrease, but not just any, in the back loops only! If you ever tried working an invisible decrease into back loops then you know how awkward it can be. The angle of the back loops makes it difficult to insert your hook into both stitches and virtually impossible to draw that hook through. In fact, most times I’d just default to a standard decrease and hope it wouldn’t be that visible…. it always was 😢 That was until I learned this simple trick that allows you to work a BLO invisible decrease, with ease! Instead of inserting your hook into 1st then 2nd stitch of the decrease, just reverse the order (see instructions below) It may sound a bit awkward but once you get the hang of it, it makes working a BLO inv-dec so much better! INSTRUCTIONS: Skip the 1st stitch and insert your hook into the back loop of the 2nd stitch in your decrease. Turn your work sideways (as shown) and insert the hook into back loop of the 1st stitch (turning your work sideways will make it easier to see the 1st stitch) then finish as you would a standard single crochet. Welcome to another late edition of #JustATipTuesday - Today I wanted to show you one of my fave tricks to getting neat side edges when working with double crochet stitches. The trick is using a standing double crochet stitch! I’ve only learned about standing stitches few years ago and I’ve found them so versatile. Standing stitches typically replace the need for a turning or joining chain, and act as the first stitch in your row or round. They can be used to create invisible seams when working in joining rounds, or create a clean color transition when adding new color. Today, however, I am showing you how to use the standing dc stitch to get a nice and even side edge while working in rows. Simply skip your turning chains and replace your first stitch with a standing DC. Easy peasy! If you haven’t tried standing stitches yet, give them a go!
