SIA video from a public appointment ceremony in Patna has gone viral, showing Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar removing the niqab or Islamic face veil of a woman doctor on stage, triggering widespread criticism.
The incident occurred on Monday at the CM’s residence during the distribution of appointment letters to 1,283 newly recruited AYUSH doctors, including practitioners of Ayurveda, Homoeopathy and Unani medicine.
As Nitish Kumar handed the appointment letter to Dr Nusrat Parveen, he reportedly questioned her headscarf and asked her to remove it. He then removed the niqab himself, leaving the doctor visibly uncomfortable as some people present laughed.
Event officials later returned the appointment letter and escorted her off the stage.
