If a bunny bites out of fear or aggression, it’s because they’ve decided you’re a predator. Reacting with anger, aggression, or force only confirms their fear, reinforcing the belief that they need to defend themselves even more. Instead, a loud yelp startles them, creating a pause that interrupts the behavior without escalating it. The goal is to set boundaries while maintaining trust, using natural communication instead of intimidation.
With the most traumatized bunnies, however, even a yelp can be too much. In these cases, the best approach is to show them that biting has no effect. Using a trainer’s glove or a welding glove allows you to remain neutral—no reaction at all when they bite. This helps calm their nervous system over time, confirming that you are not a threat. When there is no reaction to reinforce their fear response, they eventually stop seeing the need to defend themselves.
