🎸Follow: @therocknrollbible for more… ….. Johnny Winter was a blistering force in the world of blues and rock guitar, known for his fiery playing, gravelly voice, and electrifying stage presence. Born in 1944 in Beaumont, Texas, Winter rose to fame in the late 1960s with his fierce mix of Texas blues and high-octane rock. An albino with a striking look and a Les Paul slung low, he quickly became a standout figure during the blues-rock explosion of the era. His performances were raw, intense, and emotionally charged, with rapid-fire slide guitar work and a deep love for the blues at their core. Throughout his career, Winter recorded and toured relentlessly, earning the respect of blues legends like Muddy Waters, with whom he collaborated on several Grammy-winning albums. Records like Johnny Winter And and Still Alive and Well cemented his status as a guitar hero. Despite battles with addiction and health issues, he never lost his passion for the music. His final years saw a resurgence in acclaim, and his last album, Step Back (2014), won a Grammy posthumously. Johnny Winter left behind a legacy of uncompromising bluesmanship and remains one of the genre’s most electrifying figures. ….. #JohnnyWinter #GuitarLegend #RockAndRoll #MusicIcon #ElectricGuitar #GuitarSolo #GuitarRiffs #TimelessMusic #LiveMusic #GuitarHeroes #MusicLovers #IconicPerformance #LegendaryMusician #BluesGuitar #GuitarInfluence #GuitarCommunity #GuitarLovers #LegendaryGuitarist #RockIcons #GuitarPassion #MusicHistory #BBking #BuddyGuy #EricClapton #Blues

Johnny Winter - Mean Town Blues. Remembering the great Johnny Winter (February 23, 1944 – July 16, 2014) At 15, Johnny formed his first band, and by the time he was 18 was making records. From 1962 to 1968, Johnny recorded prodigiously for a variety of record labels and in a great variety of musical styles. “At the time, I was cutting as many records as I could, in pursuit of a radio hit,” says Winter. “I didn’t think there was any money in playing blues, so we cut everything we could think of. ” Eventually, Winter gave in to his true love and became a full-time blues guitarist. In 1968, Rolling Stone published a story about the young blues upstart, describing Winter as “a cross-eyed albino with long, fleecy hair, who plays some of the gutsiest, fluid blues guitar you’ve ever heard.” And thus Winter’s rapid-fire ascent to super-stardom began. CBS Records gave him a six-figure signing bonus and in early 1969 released his first CBS record, Johnny Winter. At the same time, Imperial Records released The Progressive Blues Experiment, an album of demos he’d recorded earlier in Austin, that was a strong outing as well. “I started with slide guitar by listening to The Best of Muddy Waters. I also listened to a lot of Robert Johnson, Son House and Elmore James. I learned a lot from Elmore. I could hear that they were switching back and forth between playing with the slide and fretting with his fingers, but I had no idea how they were doing it. Back when I started, I didn’t know anyone else that played slide. I had to learn it all myself from listening to the records—the tunings and everything.”

Johnny Winter was such a talented singer and guitarist. When he was playing without his slide he was great at putting together fast, rapid-fire blues licks. When he played with his slide, he could produce smooth haunting sounds as well as high energy rock and roll. He was an all around virtuoso, and is considered to be one of the best slide players of all time. Winter was heavily inspired by Muddy Waters, he even made a tribute song to him on his debut album, “The Progressive Blues Experiment,” an absolutely iconic debut albums in the blues genre. Waters and Winter eventually became great friends and performed live together many times. Winter also produced three studio albums for Waters, and each of them went on to win a Grammy. You can only imagine the amount of excitement Winter had getting the opportunity to work with his hero. Great performance by Johnny Winter from the DVD 'Live from the 70's'“Key To The Highway” is one of those many blues songs with murky origins and controversy about who exactly penned the lyrics. Though the song is associated with Big Bill Broonzy, it was first recorded by piano player Charlie Segar – who was known as the “Key Board Wizard Supreme” – in February 1940. A few months later, Broonzy played guitar on a version by Jazz Gillum before recording his own version in 1941 (with Gillum returning the musical favor and playing harmonica on that cover). All three claimed a hand in the authorship of the song, though Broonzy’s acoustic eight-bar-blues version (the original was 12-bar) became the standard-bearer. #blues #bluesmusic #johnnywinter #guitar #legend #electricguitar

In memory of Richard Dean Zehringer (August 5, 1947 – May 26, 2025), known professionally as Rick Derringer, was an American musician, producer and songwriter. He gained success in the 1960s with his band, the McCoys. Their debut single, “Hang On Sloopy”, became a number-one hit in 1965 and is regarded as a classic track from the garage rock era. The McCoys had seven songs chart in the top 100, including covers of “Fever” and “Come On, Let’s Go”. After releasing All American Boy, Derringer established a career as a solo artist Rock and Roll Hoochie Koo - Rick Derringer & The Edgar Winter Group | “Rock and Roll, Hoochie Koo” is a rock song written by American musician Rick Derringer. It was first recorded in 1970 by Johnny Winter and his band Johnny Winter And, of which Derringer was a member. In 1973, Derringer recorded a solo version, which was his only top 40 chart hit as a solo artist in the US. It became a staple of 1970s classic rock radio and rock music compilations. Both Winter and Derringer have recorded multiple live versions of the song. #rickderringer #johnnywinter #rockandrollhoochiekoo #1970smusic #70smusic #livemusic #1970s #chuckruff #danhartman #rockmusician #hangonsloopy

#johnnywinter #credenceclearwaterrevival #rockbilly #muddywaters #blues #rocknroll #stevierayvaughan #rorygallagher #bbking #albertking #thebeatles #therollingstones #ledzeppelin #zztop #jimihendrix
