When the budget for the kitchen makeover is tiny but it’s the room that needs the biggest change !! I hated the tiles on the wsll, the Lino on the floor, the random stickers on the wall and the cupboards were very tired and not I good condition. I was afraid I’d have to replace the doors or strip them right back but a very helpful guy in @woodies_ireland was able to advise us. On his advice we picked out Rust O Leum paint in warm taupe and as it’s a primer and paint can be used on any surface. I covered the cupboards and tiles with this. I picked up DC Fix Self Adhesive in a wood grain affect in black to refresh the worktop and Peel and Stick Floor tiles . To tie in the tiles and the cupboards I used My Colour paint in shade Symmetry. I purchased all of these in the Waterford Woodies store. It’s a small kitchen so I bought a breakfast bar and 2 stools @amazon to give myself a small seating area. I picked up new window blinds @lidlireland at 12.99 each. The power of a lick of paint! ✨ Modernising our 90s house on a budget 🏡💰 We moved into this 90s build detached home just over a year ago and we don’t have a huge budget for changes. The kitchen units were newish and good quality but we HATED the colour, so @bandq_uk came to the rescue with this renovation paint ✨ This was a long slow process over several months as we didn’t want to lose use of the entire kitchen for a week. I would prep and paint at night when the kids were in bed, on my lunch breaks at work, whenever I could get another cabinet door done around our busy family life. In total this probably cost £150 including materials 💴 👍🏼 We used V33 worktop and cabinet paint in shade ‘cotton satin’. It came out a purer white than the shade on the tub (which looked more cream), but I didn’t mind that. We also switched out the handles with a set from @handle_and_home (bargain prices!) and painted the tiles. I’m not impressed with the Rustoleum tile paint as this hasn’t worn very well at all! It’s definitely feeling much fresher, brighter, and more modern. I’m looking forward to summer using this revamped space, and planning the slightly more expensive upgrades we want such as worktop overlays and a new sink and hob ⭐️ #renovation #kitchenrevamp #budgetdiy

I am so pleased with the finish and quality of the paint. Definitely learned some tip and tricks especially around shaker style doors. I’m happiest with a brush in hand and a vision. This was my first time using @rustoleumuk paints and I’m absolutely BLOWN away by the quality. The smoothest coverage, incredible durability, and a finish that actually lasts. Designed for busy, high-traffic areas, Rust-Oleum’s low-odour formulas offer an incredible selection of colours too. Painting isn’t just about the act itself. It’s about changing the mood; and mostly, making a space feel like you again✨ For our kitchen we used: -Matt Finish Kitchen Cupboard Paint in Half Light (literally like painting with double cream🥹) -Matt Interior Wood Paint in Skimmed Milk on T&G cladding -Satin UPVC Paint in Cafe Luxe on the window. I can vouch for ZERO chips or scratches so far! (Wonder product-and I’ve painted a LOT of things🤣) @krudkutteruk (a water based cleaner & degreaser) to remove oil & grime. You need to wear gloves when you use this so don’t copy me!😬 I used this on the cabinets & window once they’d been slightly sanded. Game changer!

✨ The second time we’ve painted this kitchen… and this one feels right. When we first moved in over four years ago the kitchen was painted a deep red. It was nice, just not really our style. But we’d just moved house, money was tight, and decorating wasn’t exactly the top priority because we found out I was pregnant one week after getting the keys 😅 So like most people do when budgets are tight… I grabbed leftover paint from other projects and simply freshened the space up with what we had. It worked for a while…. But fast forward a few years, two kids, the weaning stage, sticky fingers everywhere, and the walls were definitely starting to look a little tired. More than that though, the colours we chose back then were quite cool tones. Lots of greys and whites. The funny thing is this corner of the house actually gets the most beautiful sunshine, but somehow the room still never felt warm or cosy. So this time I wanted to completely change the feel of the space. I chose a soft plastery pink for the walls and a calm sage green along the bottom to bring warmth into the room and create more of that cosy country kitchen feel I love. With kids around, I also made sure to pick a tough, scrubbable paint that works on walls, wood and even metal, so it should stand up to everyday life. It’s budget friendly, durable and family proof which is exactly what we need right now. And honestly… seeing the room start to come together feels so satisfying after living with it half finished for so long. ✨ Next up: I’ll be upcycling the dining chairs, the monk bench and the table so everything ties together. And that’s the stage I’ve been most excited about. It’s been 5 years since I painted my kitchen cabinets! They still look great too so I thought I’d share my steps. A few other top tips: - if your cabinets haven’t been painted before like mine, then you must not skip applying a primer! My favourite is @duluxtrade Uni Primer - the type of brush is important. Water based paints should be applied with a synthetic brush because natural bristle brushes are too absorbent for a water based paint and you won’t get a great finish - Dampen the surface & the brush bristles but only very slightly. Water based paints can dry quickly and then drag on the surface giving a textured finish so this helps give you that extra bit of time to apply - if you can keep the doors off for a day or so then that’s ideal or if you can’t then be extra careful with them as whilst the paint is dry, it won’t be fully cured I’m actually thinking of repainting my kitchen this year… time for a new colour so will be following these steps again.
