Script: This is a Lasius niger queen, the Black Garden Ant, and this is the swarm about to hit the UK in the next few days.
But how do we know these ants are planning to swarm in the first place? Well, it starts underground with a warm and wet spring from piles of ant larvae. Most develop into workers, and a few, under the right conditions, grow into queens. This year, conditions have been just right, it seems like billions of queens are being produced at the same time all across Europe and Asia.
On the first warm day after a storm, they're going to burst out of their nests in such high numbers that satellites pick them up as hundred-fifty-mile clouds across the UK, just one zone as emergences spread across Europe, Asia, and even parts of North America.
But despite what it sounds like, you can put the flamethrowers away. Every year, the ants disappear as suddenly as they appeared, as each queen ant finds a mate, takes off her wings, and digs a hole to start the cycle again, if they can escape the millions of ant colonies trying to kill future rivals on arrival.

KAنگهداری مورچه به عنوان حیوان خانگی یک علاقه خاص و متفاوته که توی سالهای اخیر محبوبتر هم شده. به این کار “مورچهداری” یا ant keeping میگن. در ادامه مزایا، معایب و نکاتی که باید بدونی رو میگم:
مزایا:
• فضای کم لازم داره: یه فارم مورچه خیلی کوچیکه و توی یه گوشه میز جا میگیره.
• جالبه برای مشاهده: رفتار اجتماعی و نظم توی کلونی مورچهها خیلی جذابه.
• هزینه نگهداری پایینه: نیاز به غذای سادهای دارن (شهد، میوه، حشرات خشکشده) و تجهیزات زیادی نمیخواد.
• آموزندهست: برای یادگیری درباره ساختار کلونی، رفتار حیوانات و زیستشناسی عالیه.
معایب:
• نیاز به دقت در نگهداری داره: اگه در ظرفشون درز باشه ممکنه فرار کنن.
• همهی گونهها مناسب نگهداری نیستن: بعضیها تهاجمیان یا نگهداریشون سخته.
• در دست گرفتنشون ممکن نیست: برخلاف حیواناتی مثل همستر یا گربه، نمیتونی باهاش بازی فیزیکی کنی.
چی لازمه برای شروع:
1. فرمیکاریا (فرمیکاریوم): محل زندگی مورچهها. معمولاً از آکریلیک، شیشه یا گِل ساخته میشه.
2. گونه مناسب: برای شروع، مورچههایی مثل Lasius niger یا Tetramorium گزینههای خوبیان.
3. ملکه: برای تشکیل کلونی پایداری، به یک مورچه ملکه نیاز داری.
4. غذا و آب: شکر حلشده در آب، شهد، حشرات کوچک.
5. اطلاعات: باید درباره چرخه زندگی، تغذیه، دما و رطوبت مناسب گونه مورد نظرت اطلاعات داشته باشی
