Layla is one of Eric Clapton’s most iconic songs, recorded in 1970 with his band Derek and the Dominos and released on their album Layla and Other Assorted Love Song's. Written by Eric Clapton and drummer Jim Gordon, the song was inspired by Clapton’s unrequited love for Pattie Boyd, the wife of George Harrison at the time. Musically, Layla is famous for its passionate guitar riff and emotional intensity, followed by a contrasting piano coda that gives the track a dramatic two part structure. Though not an immediate hit, Layla later became one of rock’s most celebrated love songs and a defining moment in Clapton’s career.
