NILimeni, you have my heart. ❤️ as soon as I arrived to those iridescent waters at my back door I knew I’d found my place. It looked like the AI videos on YouTube that accompany my jazz tracks. I then swam with turtles and Lay in the sun watching the yachts look back at us: jealous. Swimming and chatting with the locals made us feel right at home. Then we watched the moon rise over the twinkly lights of the town across the bay. Limeni is famous for its aquamarine waters but has no actual beach. There are two entryways to enjoy the sea: one is via built steps -just opposite the tavern with the red chairs and the other one is here, just below the water sports centre, which you’ll find further down the road

LOThe Mani region in Greece is a lesser travelled destination in Greece, but much loved by Locals. Limeni, is a small seaside town in the region, that’s filled with a dramatic rugged coastline, bright blue seas and authentic tavernas.
The seafood taverna ‘O Takis’ is perched on the waters edge and put Limeni on the local travel map years ago. It’s well known for its delicious and fresh sea to plate seafood dishes, particularly it’s lobster pasta dish 🍝 🐠

PE🧿Limeni is one of the most impressive villages in Greece. It is located just 2 kilometers north of Areopolis, in an attractive location as the village literally touches the sea.
🗺A popular attraction is the Tower of Mavromichalis, which had an important role during the Revolution. Further north is the castle of Kelefa, which was built in 1670 by the Ottomans by order of the Vizier Kioproulis, with the aim of controlling the unruly Maniots. Together with Passava in Ageranos and Zarnata in Kampos, they controlled the passes to Mani.
🏖 Limeni has a sandy beach at its interior. However, a few more kilometers to the north, you will find its sandy beach of Tsippa with dozens of taverns and bars.

JA🇬🇷 Tucked away in the southern Peloponnese are the jewel-like waters of Limeni.
Surrounded by lush green mountains and the traditional stone buildings of the Mani region, this secluded bay has a certain magic.
There is no beach here but there are staircases down to the water and a small area where you can leave your towels/belongings whilst swimming. (Labelled as Dexameni Beach on Google maps.)
A handful of upmarket eateries & traditional seafood restaurants line the waterfront, some with sun loungers for hire if you want to spend the day here.
We came here for a morning swim followed by a generous lunch at Thodora’s Place, which is a traditional taverna laced with bougainvillea close to the swimming area.
I recommend a car for exploring this region. Limeni is approx 50 min drive from the popular holiday town of Stoupa so can be done as a day trip. Alternatively it takes just under 2 hours to drive to Limeni from Kalamata Airport.
There is limited parking near the north side of the village. During peak times people park on the main road above the village rather than squeezing through the narrow one way street near the waterfront.
We stayed inbetween Limeni & Areopoli at the beautiful @ariaestatemani - a boutique hotel built in traditional Mani style with a breathtaking infinity pool & absolutely loved it. (See my highlights for more info.)
