THA tech billionaire just paid $125M for 1% of the Miami Dolphins… and the strategy behind it is fascinating.
Lin Bin, who built Xiaomi into one of the world’s largest smartphone companies after stints at Microsoft and Google, just joined the Dolphins ownership group.
But deals like this don’t happen randomly. The bridge was likely Joe Tsai, owner of the Brooklyn Nets and a Dolphins minority investor, who runs in the same billionaire tech circles.
That introduction helped bring Lin Bin into the room with Dolphins owner Stephen M. Ross. And Ross didn’t just sell a piece of a football team. His company also controls Hard Rock Stadium, the Miami Grand Prix, and the Miami Open.
By selling just 1% for $125M, Ross quietly set a $12.5B valuation for the Dolphins while keeping control and bringing in another billionaire partner.
