If not, here are some cool things to see and do on the tiny Hebridean island that might change your mind: 1) Enjoy a wander round Cullipool - a pretty coastal village with cute whitewashed cottages 2) Skim stones on the beach at Toberonochy. The World Stone Skimming Championship is held annually on the neighbouring Slate Island of Easdale 3) Step back in time to the Iron Age with a visit to Ballycastle hillfort 4) Climb Cnoc Dhomhnuill (Donald’s Hill) for stunning 360° panoramic views of the Slate Islands, Mull and beyond. It’s only 94 metres high and an easy climb 5) Look for the ancient graffiti carved onto the walls of the ruined Kilchattan Church. 6) Visit the Atlantic Islands Centre - a fabulous community hub with a museum, shop and cafe. Eat langoustines fresh off the boat and delicious home baking made on the island. It’s dog friendly too 7) Walk in the shadows of the islands industrial past. Our special Luing Beef at The Grill! 🥩 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 We've just had an absolutely incredible, enormous cut of Isle of Luing beef delivered here at The Grill, and our chefs are busy butchering it themselves. We sourced this magnificent bit of beef by working closely with our friends at Longcroft & Old just across the road in Smithfield Market. You'll be able to enjoy both large and small cuts from this incredible produce! For those who don't know, Luing cows originate from the rugged Isle of Luing, off the west coast of Scotland. This relatively new breed, developed in the 60s, is a fantastic crossbreed, combining hardy cows that thrive in tough conditions with those that have simply beautiful marbling throughout their meat. This natural grazing lifestyle contributes to a wonderfully rich, complex flavour. Plus, it's a truly sustainable choice, as these magnificent animals are raised outdoors year-round in their wild Scottish environment. You won't want to miss this! The body of a fisherman was recovered from a remote uninhabited island in Argyll on Wednesday evening after his boat ran aground. Emergency services including the police and coastguard were called shortly after 5pm on December 13 to Belnahua, near the island of Luing, after receiving a report about the boat. The 58-year-old man’s body was recovered and his next of kin has been made aware. The death is being treated as unexplained but there are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances. Police added that a report will be sent to the procurator fiscal. A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 5.15pm on Wednesday, December 13, we were made aware of a boat running aground in the Belnahua area. “The coastguard attended and the body of a 58-year-old man was recovered. His next of kin are aware. “The death is being treated as unexplained but there are not believed to be suspicious circumstances. A report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.” #news #STVNews

Winter The recent wet weather and falling temperatures has switched us well and truly into winter mode on the farm. Our livestock out-winter. Protected by thick hairy coats, and kept warm by always having plenty to eat, they are perfectly suited to living outside all year around. The cattle are still moved onto fresh paddocks every single day, preventing the ground from being churned up and keeping them grazing and eating- the most important component to keeping them warm and happy. We place wrapped silage bales out in advance on stubbles left from summer crops or on deferred grazing (fields left ungrazed all year). The herds get bales freshly unwrapped every day. On fresher grass fields or when the cattle need a top up, we also unwind silage bales for them. This spreads the feeding area right out to reduce competition for food, and also prevents too many hoof prints on one area when the soil is particularly soft or the grass is relatively young. In this way we manage to keep them outside all year.
