You might not know this, but ever since I watched Walking with Dinosaurs (1999) as a kid, I’ve dreamed of creating my own documentary one day, one where prehistoric creatures wouldn’t be depicted as brutal monsters, but as real, breathing animals simply going about their lives, as if they were truly “alive”. Since then, I’ve dedicated myself to creating realistic illustrations of these long-gone fascinating creatures. Because we will never be able to see them alive again, the next best thing is to use art to bring them to life with such detail that they look like they are still among us today. Now, using my vast catalog of hand-drawn illustrations as a foundation, I’m animating them with AI to create the realistic scenes you see here. It’s a lengthy process, since every single shot originates from a meticulously crafted 2D illustrations made on Adobe Photoshop that I’ve spent hours on, but it’s worth it. I haven’t been this excited about creating in a long time! Your support has been incredible. From fans to both small and big names, the comments and private messages and emails encouraging me to keep going truly make my day. It means so much when you tell me these animations make you feel like you’re seeing “real” dinosaurs for the first time. The full videos are/will be available on my Patreon. Maip macrothorax was a 30-foot-long apex predator — one of the largest theropods ever discovered in South America. Weighing over 5 tons, it belonged to a terrifying group of dinosaurs called megaraptorids, known for their massive size and elongated arms with long sickle claws built to tear flesh from bone. But Maip was something else — it appeared near the end of the Cretaceous, long after most of its kind had vanished, as if nature itself had resurrected a monster for the final act of the dinosaur age. Its ribcage was unusually wide and powerful, giving it an enormous chest — likely supporting immense muscles for breathing and movement. That oversized frame wasn’t just for show. It meant Maip could move fast, breathe deep, and kill without stopping. Its serrated teeth were over a foot long, and its skull was designed to crush and slice in the same motion. Even its name is rooted in terror — Maip comes from a Patagonian myth about a shadowy spirit of death, said to suffocate the souls of its victims. That’s how scientists chose to describe this animal — not just as a predator, but as a force of destruction. Maip macrothorax was not a scavenger. #Magnapaulia, the worlds longest crested hadrosaur? This big #hadrosaur is on display at “The Nat”, aka San Diego Natural History Museum. Look closely and you will see a nest of #dinosaur eggs under its left foot. Original bones appear for a split second bottom center. I enjoy “halfsies” like this, part skeletal and life restoration. I have found this song mysterious since I heard it as a small child. My father’s shortwave radio let me speak (ok, hear :-)) people all over the world and this song captures that wonder and mystery for me still. YMMV :-)! Originally called #Lambeosaurus, in 2012 Prieto-Marquez et al. named it #Magnapaulia. At over 40’ long and more than 5 tons it is a giant non-sauropod. It has arguably my favorite #ornithischian tail as the chevrons are LONG, nearly as tall as some sauropods, with prezygapophyses forming an extra tight interlock like in big-tailed sauropods. The area at the base of the tail that doesn’t have chevrons is the #cloaca. Eggs and feces leave the body there. The bone projecting backwards is the #ischium, the femur is in front of it. If you look in front of the femur you will see a paddle-shaped bone, which is the front part of the #pubis, the back portion of it runslning alongside the ischium. This arrangement makes it an #ornithischians versus the simple V split@of the #saurischia. It was likely quadrupal, both based on size and the fact its forelimbs are quite long. Those probably ended in a “mitten” with skin binding the fingers into a column. Despite lacking sharp teeth, claws, or armor it wasn’t defenseless. That massively stiff tail and huge hindquarters result in a tail with absolutely stunning power. And, at that size, it could simply charge a predator, breaking bones as if a large truck ran into them. #FossilCrates

En la publicación se detallan los materiales con el que se describe está nueva especie (cráneo casi completo, vértebras cervicales, dorsales y costillas entre otros) además de realizar un análisis filogenetico para ubicar y conocer el parentesco de este nuevo género con otros mosasauridos conocidos. Los mosasauridos a diferencia de lo que se podría pensar, no tienen una relación directa con los plesiosauridos o pliosaurios (reptiles marinos que uno asocia con el monstruo del lago Ness). During the Late Permian, around 260 million years ago, Gorgonopsids were the apex predators of their time, while Scutosaurus, a large, heavily built pareiasaur, was one of the dominant herbivores. Gorgonopsids, such as Inostrancevia, had long, saber-like teeth, strong jaws, and a powerful bite, making them effective hunters. Scutosaurus, despite its massive size—reaching up to 2.5 meters (8 feet) long—was slow-moving and relied on its thick, bony armor for defense. Fossil evidence suggests that Gorgonopsids likely preyed on Scutosaurus, using their saber teeth to pierce through its tough hide. However, taking down such a large, armored herbivore would have been challenging, likely requiring precision bites to vulnerable areas like the neck or limbs. This colossal marine predator, growing up to 50 feet long, was the aquatic equivalent of the T-Rex, an apex hunter that ruled its domain with terrifying efficiency. Evolving from ancient lizards, the Mosasaurus rapidly expanded in the final 20 million years of the dinosaur age, with the largest species, Hoffmann's Mosasaurus, reaching an incredible 56 feet and weighing nearly 16 tons. With a massive skull packed with razor-sharp teeth, the Mosasaurus delivered a bone-crushing bite force capable of snapping its prey in half. Its victims often included the unique, long-necked plesiosaurs like Elasmosaurus. While their incredible necks were a secret weapon for ambush attacks on smaller fish, they were also a fatal vulnerability. A smart and stealthy hunter, the Mosasaurus would use the dark depths of underwater canyons as cover, exploding from the gloom with its powerful tail to strike its unsuspecting prey. (REQUESTED) PURUSSAURUS Purussaurus is an extinct genus of giant caiman that lived in South America during the Miocene epoch, from the Friasian to the Huayquerian in the SALMA classification. It is known from skull material found in the Brazilian and Peruvian Amazon, Argentina, Colombian Villavieja Formation, Panamanian Culebra Formation, Urumaco and Socorro Formations of northern Venezuela. The probable diet of Purussaurus likely included the extinct turtle Stupendemys, crocodilians including Charactosuchus, Gryposuchus, and Mourasuchus, Anhinga birds, and mammals including: sloths, bats, rodents related to the modern capybara (Josephoartigasia) weighing up to 700 kilograms (1540 lb), the primate Stirtonia, and river dolphins. Rivers, floodplains, and lake environments were present.[7] Marine and freshwater fish, turtles, crocodilians, and terrestrial and aquatic mammals are associated with Venezuelan P. mirandai. Its environment is described as tropical and coastal. The earlier Colombian P. neivensis lived alongside a massive variety of fauna, including astrapotheres like Granastrapotherium and Xenastrapotherium, the early species of Mourasuchus and Gryposuchus, and the terrestrial crocodyliform Langstonia. Bite marks on the tibia of a phorusrhacid from this locality are consistent with a caimanine, possibly a young individual of Purussaurus, though whether this represents scavenging or active predation is unclear.[8][9] This fauna dates from 13 million years ago, in the Laventan stage of the Late Miocene.[10] The genus was named for the Purus River where its fossils were first found.[citation needed]

Fossil remains provide compelling evidence of Mosasaurus’ widespread presence, as it is believed to have inhabited vast regions of the Atlantic Ocean and the adjoining seaways. Some of the largest mosasaurs reached lengths of up to 50 to 60 feet (approximately 15 to 18 meters). One well-known example is the species Mosasaurus hoffmannii, which was among the largest and most formidable of these creatures during the Late Cretaceous period. As the Cretaceous period drew to a close, mosasaurs experienced a remarkable burst of evolutionary diversification, reaching their pinnacle in terms of adaptation. However, their fate took an abrupt turn as they faced an unexpected and swift extinction event.
