Here’s a quick look into the process of making Layered Lines. Next week, 4-6th of March I have the opportunity to present my work at @materialdistrict as part of the Young Talent program. On Friday, March 6 (15:25–15:55), I’ll be giving a lecture where I’ll explain the process, future plans, and vision behind Layered Lines. Layered Lines is a technical research project that highlights the vast possibilities of recycled plastics in combination with 3D printing technology. It focuses on utilizing often overlooked parts of the printing process. The work is presented through a series of 3D printed objects created by manually controlling extrusion and cooling rates, while draping or spanning the material over various molds. By allowing gravity to shape the material, a wide range of different outcomes can emerge from the same printing file. This approach opens up new possibilities within furniture, product, and architectural applications. This year’s materials show hosted by @materialdistrict was nothing short of innovative once again. From bio-based materials to tackling waste streams and recycling opportunities, the sustainable materials market is constantly evolving. Hemp, wheat crop, camel hair, micro-algae, sea weed, egg and nutshells, sea shells, fish skin, pine bark, cork, kelp algae, cactus skin, coffee grounds - the organic materials field is waste and under constant evolution. A few of these treasures will be in our upcoming Materials Think Tank so you can play with them. ✔️ Here go the makers and brands seen above: 1. Geroen Whale studies waste leather composites 2. Marius Melissa’s works with micro-algae pigments 3. Vanhier and natural fibers composite with organic glue and color pigments 4. Studio Samira Boon works with organic 3D textiles installations and sensor technology 5. Studio Sarmite and recycled textiles waste 6. Sustaign experiments with marbled recycled plastics 7. Seawood works with seaweed for surface design 8. Planq uses denim waste surfaces for a chair 9. Vaplestik produces 3d printed plastic tiles and furniture 10. Vets La Vie makes bioplastics from organic waste 11. CoFlora Design has different cork-based products such as textiles and wall coverings 12. Pyrasied offers recycled plastics and acrylics I attended a few talks too to learn from experts and got some insights of sustainability certifications (impossible to share, so complex!!!) companies need to have for specific markets, and because this is the just the future to become a stronger brand if you operate in this field.
