Studying in med school isn’t about working harder; it’s about working smarter. After trying different methods, here’s what’s actually helped me stay on top of everything: • Practice questions: The more you quiz yourself, the better you’ll get at understanding concepts.
• High-yield notes: I focus on the key points instead of wasting time on details I’ll never need.
• Reading my notes over and over: Not everything works with Anki, so I stick to what makes sense for me.
• Finishing topics before a break: I like to finish whatever topic is on my mind, then take a break when I feel I deserve it.
• Understanding > memorizing: Trying to memorize everything is a trap. Focus on the ‘why’ behind concepts. ‼ Studying will never be perfect, and that’s okay. What matters is finding a system that works for YOU. Share your favorite study tips below and let’s help each other out! #medicalstudent #doctortobe #studyingabroad #medschool #motivation #howtostudy #medicaldegree

The advice I wish I got as a pre-med student… 1. If someone tries to tell you that you shouldn’t apply to med school, tell them to eff off. 👉🏼I had to put this at the top of the list. Don’t let a sad, lonely pre-med advisor tell you that you can’t chase your dream. 2. Nobody cares about your GPA as much as you do. 👉🏼If you’re spending more time calculating what you’ll get with a B+ than actually studying, you’re wasting energy. Do well, but stop obsessing. 3. You are not special. Yet. 👉🏼You might’ve been top of your class in undergrad, but medicine is full of people like you. Get used to being average and work from there. 4. If you don’t love delayed gratification, this path will wreck you. 👉🏼Years of debt, long hours, no sleep, no social life… and you’re still not “done.” If you want fast success, choose literally any other field. 6. Being smart isn’t enough. 👉🏼You need to be consistent. Organized. Emotionally intelligent. A good teammate. A fast learner. And still keep showing up when you’re tired. 7. Shadowing doesn’t show you what medicine is really like. 👉🏼It’s a highlight reel. If you’re basing your decision off watching a few surgeries and writing it in your personal statement, you’re in for a rude awakening. 8. Some of you are doing this for the wrong reasons. 👉🏼If you’re here for the title, the money, or your parents’ approval… those things won’t be enough to carry you through a 28-hour call. 9. Start building habits now. 👉🏼If you procrastinate, burn out easily, or suck at time management… med school and residency will expose all of that. Fix it now while you still have time. 10. This path will take everything from you… and give you back purpose, resilience, and a version of yourself you never imagined possible. 👉🏼It’s not easy, but it is worth it. You’re not just chasing a degree. You’re becoming someone who changes lives. Already in healthcare? Drop the advice you wish you got sooner 👇🏼 #premed #futuredoctor #medstudent #premedmotivation #studytips #learnontiktok #motivation #medicalstudent #medicalschool #fyp

med school is the best decision i ever made! the key is to avoid indulging in its toxic environment. you CAN maintain a healthy social life, even travel and enjoy your off days. it all lies in what you prioritise. here are 3 key takeaways: 1. perfectionism does not exist. you don’t have to be THE perfect med student. you are enough as you are giving it your all, no need to deprive yourself from life essentials to become perfect, because spoiler alert, you aren’t, and thats perfectly fine! 2. your value does not lie in your academic performance. you are more than a med student or a doctor. you are a human being after all, with hobbies and interests just like any other person. you have family and friends outside of school that you don’t have to ignore. 3. find your balance. never give up hobbies you took on prior to med school. and if you find yourself doing that, guide yourself right back to who you are… many tend to lose themselves in the process of becoming a doctor, don’t do that.

5 things I wish I knew before I started med school✨ 1. How I used to study in college will not work in medical school 📖🖌️📑: This was the most difficult and surprising thing I had to accept once matriculated into medical school. But I realized it was okay!! The most important thing in pre-clinical is to find out what type of learner you are and what kind of studying methods work for you. I wished I was more open minded to the different studying methods and allow myself to find the right one! For example, I was reluctant to primarily use anki, but now, I can’t study without it. 2. Cherish the summer before matriculation: 🏝️🍹🏐 Being a pre-medical student, I have always overloaded my summers with research and volunteer experiences, hence the thought of an unplanned summer was daunting. However, I realized I will never be as free and carefree to explore my hobbies and non-academic interests. So I decided to play volleyball competitively and travelled to another country. It was truly the best summer ever that motivated me even more to start medical school. Just remember, you are allowed to reward yourself with an stress-free summer! 3. Prioritize spending quality time with your family and friends 🧑‍🧑‍🧒👯‍♀️⏳: Connecting with your support systems will prevent burnout phase, which is so real in med school. So, don’t be afraid to reach out to your friends and families for that extra support when you need it! 4. Live with your classmates 🏠🧸🙆🏻‍♀️: Living with some of my M1 classmates have been the best choice I have made. We would go to lectures together, talk about the struggles we face and inspire each other to explore different fields in medicine. They have become my bestest friends and supporters. Looking back at my first year, I don’t know how I would’ve survived without them. 5. Schedule in sleep time is equally as important as scheduling in studying blocks 🌙💤⭐️: Prioritizing sleep has been essential to decrease stress and help me be the most productive I can be. Sleep is NOT for the weak! I hope these advices help those incoming M1s! . . #medicine #incomingmedicalstudent #premed #tips #fyp #travelling #summer #premedstudent #premedtips

Sharing my exact med school timeline here 🫶 I decided that I wanted to become a doctor when I was 25. At the time, I had started my career as a strategy consultant and things were going really well for me 👩🏽‍💼 When I came to that decision, I took a few weeks to plan the year ahead (aka how to jump through all of the hoops required for medical school) and I quit my job 😭 The next year was by far the most uncomfortable year of my life. I had CRIPPLING doubts the entire time and felt very out of place MOST OF THE TIME (people are also a bit mean in med but that’s another story) 🥲 But I put one foot in front of the other, studied and took the MCAT, took all of the prereqs required by the schools in my area, worked as medical assistant in a local clinic, and was finally able to apply to med schools. I got in on my first try (by the Grace of God), have started M1 a few months ago, and am beyond grateful for the path ahead 🫶 #medstudent #medicalschool #premed #doctor #medschooljourney #careerchange #nevertoolate #medschoolmotivation

Do medical students actually know what they’re doing? As a former medical school professor and DO physician, I’ve seen the full spectrum — from confident third-years to terrified first-years silently wondering if they belong. In this interview-style video, I talk honestly about: • Imposter syndrome in med school • The illusion of confidence • Why even strong students feel lost • What changes between preclinical and clinical years • And the truth about when you finally start to “get it” If you’re a medical student questioning yourself right now, this is for you. You’re not behind. You’re not broken. And you’re definitely not alone.

Some may disagree, but in my view, the key to success in medicine is primarily a dedication to serving and helping others. When the focus shifts to ego or financial gain, it rarely results in compassionate and effective physicians. For those contemplating medical school, it’s crucial to grasp that you’re entering a profession dedicated to saving lives. This requires caring for others as you would for yourself and maintaining clear priorities. #doctor #medicine #successful #hearthealth #heartdoctor #meded #cardiologist #medicalstudent
