LII had NO idea you could use anything other than parchment paper for melting Perler/Fuse bead projects. I mean, that’s what everything online recommends and what kits come with! One of my recent purchases of mini-beads from Amazon came with acetate film to melt with and my mind was blown.
I tested my own stencil film I had with this video (to ensure it wasn’t just the film that came with the bead kit). It works really well and leaves a very glossy finish on your pieces.
I melted both of these hearts on the medium setting of my heat press mini (anywhere between 315/355 F I’m not entirely sure). Parchment paper leaves a matte finish with some texture of the parchment paper embedded in it. The film leaves a smooth glossy finish that catches the light.
Personally, I think that the matte finish is better for larger works (wouldn’t want to have too much glare!), but I can see the glossy finish being great for things like magnets and small projects.
The film I used was just cheap stencil film from Amazon I bought a few years ago. It’s also known as acetate sheets. I will say, if you use the film, don’t try and reheat it after it cools. I’ve done this twice and it leaves the glossy finish patchy unfortunately.
