Our lemon (and citrus) trees are working hard this time of year, pulling a huge amount of nutrients from the soil to grow the lemons/limes/ oranges/ mandarins -that we’ll enjoy all winter. 🍋 So it’s the perfect time to give them a little extra love. I like to feed mine with comfrey leaves and a sprinkle of Epsom salt to top up the minerals. If you don’t have comfrey growing, a good seaweed fertiliser (or seaweed) works beautifully too.

I really truly almost bought a big lemon tree because the man said he would deliver it to our place at the end of the day. But Keith talked me out of it. I will buy another smaller lemon tree soon, though. I only have two lemons left on the tree on our balcony. And I am convinced that the fresher the lemons the better the cookies. I also bought a pressure cooker, which I love. And about 12 kilos (about 25 pounds) of potatoes, some strawberries...oh, and 4 sweaters for the two of us for €6 each. So not a bad shopping trip to the Monday market. But, no flowers. Right now my new pressure cooker is singing on the stove, which is a great sound. Tomorrow I'll show you what I'm using it for. We will be turning all those potatoes into mashed potatoes for a young adult meal tomorrow. Just a normal morning in the life of a senior missionary couple! You all have a beautiful day!

Lemon blossoms bloom all year round, but they really peak in spring. Something interesting about lemon trees is that they are self-fertile, meaning they can produce fruit without a second tree. However, pollinators like bees significantly increase fruit set. It can take anywhere from 6-9 months for the fruit to fully ripen! So seeing these little blossoms is seeing the beginning of a very long journey. The blossoms themselves are incredibly fragrant and have a very floral and citrus-forward aroma. It is similar to jasmine, lilac, or of course orange blossom scents. Next time you see a lemon tree keep an eye out for these beautiful buds! #Spring #lemontree #lemon #farmtotable
