SP🧫 Surface Plating Technique
In this method, the inoculum is deposited on the solidified agar surface and spread with a Drigalski spatula or a glass rod, previously sterilized. This keeps microorganisms restricted to the surface, resulting in well-defined colonies.
🔬 Widely applied for:
✔️ Colony-forming unit (CFU) counts – especially in food, water, and pharmaceutical analysis.
✔️ Selective isolation – when distinct colony morphologies need to be observed for identification.
✔️ Microbial antagonism tests – such as inhibition zone assays.
📌 Unlike the pour plate, where microorganisms are distributed both inside and on the surface of the agar, surface plating relies on oxygen availability, favoring aerobic and facultative microbes. That makes it the right choice when the goal is isolation and characterization of target organisms.

We found ants moving aphids onto pear leaves, so we sprayed JADAM Microbial Pesticide (JMP).
Both ants and aphids were effectively controlled.
This is the result of using JMP, invented by Mr. Youngsang Cho, the president of JADAM.
