These worms (Tubifex tubifex) are found in the Sulfur Cave, located between Greece and Albania, alongside gigantic spider webs that are home to more than 110,000 spiders. They live in the sediment of the cave's sulfidic stream, feeding on the biofilm that consists of sulfur-oxidizing microorganisms. Where most caves are characterized by food scarcity, the microorganisms that these worms feed on contribute to the chemosynthesis process that allows the cave's complex ecosystem to thrive. Inside a drop of water, this tiny animal is running a microscopic feeding machine. Looks like this is a Bdelloid rotifer. The spinning “propeller” at the front isn’t a wheel at all. it’s thousands of tiny beating hairs called cilia creating currents that pull food straight into its mouth. At this scale, water behaves more like syrup than the water we know, so these creatures evolved clever ways to move and feed. #microscopy #microbiology #smallthingsbigwonders #hiddenworld #microorganisms

Blowing hot food and drinks can also cause food contamination with microorganisms. According to a Research study, the number of bacterial contamination in the blown samples was larger than in the unblown sample. This experiment was conducted by the royal society of chemistry on carbon dioxide and water reactions. Own exhaled breath was used to see the water and carbon dioxide reactions. There was formation of weak acid which produce the result by changing the color of indicator (acid-base) .Carbon dioxide reacting with water causes the formation of carbonic acid. We know that when carbonic acid in dissociated it forms hydrogen ions and bicarbonate ions. Hydrogen ions increase the acidity of the solution . These statements from the experiment and research show the negative effects of drinking the water that we had exhaled. Exhaled air contains high level of carbon dioxide. When we exhale into the water we are drinking, the carbon dioxide will react with the water and forms carbonic acid. When carbonic acid goes into the body, it will lower the blood pH as there are hydrogen ions (H+) in carbonic acid (H2CO3). Lower blood pH causes acidosis which may lead to kidney failure. The lifecycle of a mosquito has four stages and is called a complete metamorphosis: 1. Egg – Female mosquitoes lay eggs on the surface of stagnant water. 2. Larva – Eggs hatch into larvae (“wrigglers”) that live in water, breathe air, and feed on microorganisms. 3. Pupa – Larvae develop into pupae (“tumblers”), which do not feed but remain active while transforming. 4. Adult – The adult mosquito emerges from the pupa, rests briefly on the water surface, then flies away. 👉 The whole cycle usually takes 7–10 days, depending on temperature and water conditions.

Along the southern edge of the Dead Sea in Jordan, shallow evaporation ponds can turn a striking pink. The color usually comes from salt tolerant microorganisms and algae that flourish in extremely saline water, especially under intense heat and high evaporation. As water evaporates, dissolved salts remain behind and become more concentrated. Over time, the brine reaches salinity levels far higher than typical ocean water, dramatically increasing its density. When a rock is thrown into this dense, mineral rich water, it can sink much more slowly or appear to briefly float. The unusually high salinity increases buoyant force, creating a visible demonstration of how water density directly affects whether an object sinks or stays at the surface. In aquariums, special cleaning liquids are sometimes used to help control harmful bacteria and maintain a healthy environment for fish. These solutions are carefully formulated to disinfect surfaces, remove contaminants, and prevent the buildup of dangerous microorganisms inside the tank. When added in controlled amounts, the liquid works by breaking down harmful bacteria and organic waste that can accumulate in the water or on tank equipment. This helps keep the aquarium ecosystem balanced while reducing the risk of infections that could harm the fish. Proper aquarium maintenance often combines these treatments with regular water changes and filtration, ensuring the tank stays clean, stable, and safe for aquatic life. Love facts? Follow @inafact
