How can you observe tardigrades? You take a look at moss: their natural habitat! Our friend @tardibabe took a look and found tardigrades from two genera: Milnesium and Macrobiotus. Milnesium tardigrades have long, pointy claws and a decorated snout, which help them grab, manipulate, and stabilize their prey. Macrobiotus have shorter claws and a simpler snout, which makes them vegetarians feeding off of algae and plant cells, with the occasional relapse into a carnivorous diet when feeding on microscopic animals. It also allows them to slurp out of air bubbles. These animals highlight some of the biodiversity that can be found in microscopic environments! @Tardibabe safely returned them to their natural habitat after taking a quick look. #Science #Microscope #Microscopy #Animals #Tardigrade

Why Hydrogen Peroxide Makes Blood Stains Disappear 🔬 Hydrogen peroxide works on blood stains because it breaks apart the tiny red cells that give blood its color. Blood looks red because of millions of microscopic Red blood cells. These cells are like tiny water balloons filled with red pigment. When you pour Hydrogen peroxide on blood, it damages those tiny balloons. They burst open and release what’s inside. Once the cells break apart, the color spreads out and can be washed away more easily — which is why the stain fades. Those bubbles you see on the slide? That’s oxygen being released during the reaction. So hydrogen peroxide isn’t just “cleaning” the blood… it’s actually breaking the blood cells themselves. #microscope #microscopy #science #scienceexplained #sciencefacts

From the extremely BIG to the incredibly small... 🔭🔬 Whether you’re exploring space through a telescope or examining life under a microscope, the goal is the same: to greatly extend human vision. Astronomy and microscopy are both fields that are built on the challenge of making the invisible visible. Each relies on light and data to reveal hidden structures, whether across the vastness of the universe or within the tiny details of living cells. This fall, NASA’s Chandra X-ray Observatory — the world’s premier telescope that detects X-rays from space — has worked with images from Nikon Small World, a free microscopy imaging competition, to celebrate the similarities and differences between the micro and the macro. By pairing glimpses of these two worlds, we can explore the deep connections across scale — down to the smallest cells and out to the largest galaxies. 🔍Investigate all of the images at the link in Chandra’s profile! Video description is available in the comments. #micro #macro #microscope #telescope #space

🗣️ALL (Acute Lymphoid Leukemia) kya hai? 🩸 ALL ek type ka fast-growing (aggressive) blood aur bone marrow cancer hai.☠️☠️ Hota kya hai? Is condition mein, bone marrow normal lymphocytes banane ki jagah, bohot saare abnormal aur immature (kachhe) cells banane lagta hai, jinhe Lymphoblasts kehte hain. "Acute" kyun? Kyunki yeh bohot tezi se badhta hai. 〽️Effect: Yeh blast cells itni tezi se multiply hote hain ki bone marrow mein healthy cells (RBCs, normal WBCs, aur platelets) ke banne ke liye jagah hi nahi bachti. Iski wajah se patient ko severe anemia, bleeding, aur frequent infections hote hain 🔵Lymphocytes kya hain? 🛡️ Lymphocytes humari body ke "defense system" 💂‍♂️🪖ke main soldiers hain. Yeh special type ke White Blood Cells (WBCs) hote hain jo infections (jaise bacteria ya viruses) 🦠se ladte hain. Simple words mein: Yeh immunity build karte hain. Inke main types B-cells (jo antibodies banate hain) aur T-cells (jo infected cells ko destroy karte hain) hote hain. Microscope ke under: Ek healthy mature lymphocyte chhota hota hai, jiska nucleus bohot dark aur compact (dense) hota hai, aur cytoplasm bohot kam hota hai. #education #knowledge #microscopy

Microscopic giants doing ballet in a drop of water 🔬💙 via: @desi_morrison (thanks so much for letting us share 🤍) This is Stentor — a single-celled organism that still somehow looks like it got designed by a sci-fi art director. They’re among the largest “single cells” you’ll ever see (often 1–2 mm long), which means you can sometimes spot them as tiny specks with the naked eye if the light hits right. Stentors are ciliates: their bodies are lined with microscopic hairs (cilia) that let them glide, spin, and create little currents to pull food toward their “mouth.” And when they’re startled? They can snap into a tight ball in a heartbeat… then unfurl again like nothing happened. There’s something humbling about it — whole lives, whole behaviours, happening in a single droplet. #globe #microscopy #microbiology #science #nature

Feathers: ancient, engineered, and way more than just for flight. 🪶 Our friend @tardibabe headed to Bonaventure Island and Percé Rock National Park and a feather from a Northern Gannet (Morus Bassanus) which sparked a deep dive into the story of feathers themselves. The earliest known feathered bird, Archaeopteryx, lived over 150 million years ago and likely shared a common ancestor with theropod dinosaurs. Thousands of fossil discoveries reveal that many non-avian dinosaurs also had feathers, including complex types that are not found in modern birds. Like our hair, feathers are made of keratin and grow from follicles in the skin. Once fully formed, they’re biologically inactive but functionally brilliant. A single bird can have more than 20,000 feathers. Each one is built from a central shaft called a rachis, which branches into barbs that split again into microscopic barbules. These barbules end in tiny hook-like structures that latch neighboring barbs together, like nature’s version of Velcro. A single feather can contain over a million of them. Feathers can vary dramatically in shape, size, and color depending on a bird’s life stage, season, or function, whether for warmth, camouflage, communication, or lift. And when birds molt, they don’t just lose feathers randomly. Flight and tail feathers fall out in perfectly timed pairs to keep balance mid-air. From fossils in stone to the sky above us, feathers are evidence of evolution at its most innovative, designed by dinosaurs, refined by birds, and still outperforming modern engineering. #Science #Birds #Feathers #Microscopy #Microscope #UpClose

Close-up view of erythrocytes🔬 Erythrocytes, or red blood cells, are the most abundant cellular components of blood and play a crucial role in oxygen transport. They contain hemoglobin, a specialized protein that binds oxygen in the lungs and delivers it to peripheral tissues while facilitating the removal of carbon dioxide. #microscopy #laboratory #erythrocytes #microscope
