When I was little, I wanted to be a famous Broadway singer. 🤨
My mom took me to a performance which I *think* was at a local high school and they sang this Billy Joel song acapella and I was entranced. It’s been one of my top 3 favorite songs since.
I made my mom accompany me on the piano for hours while I belted out Annie’s, “Maybe” and Carousel’s, “You Will Never Walk Alone.” And she, with great gusto and 100% support, set up my little music stand and weathered the storm of my childhood dreams. Thanks mom @megkelseywright.
I also did a brief stint in dance… but I lack the fundamental coordination to ever be able to excel… I mean, have you seen my dancing TikToks?
I “danced” in our small town’s annual “Nutcracker” performance for years… but was never selected as a “party child…” a most coveted role.
I want to think this had to do with me being not white (because all of the party children every year I tried out were white and I was always a reindeer/polichinelle/angel in full white face makeup) but maybe I just really sucked at ballet. Actually no, because I overheard something definitely racist one year… but let’s put a pin in that and save it for a future therapy session.
How did I get from Sharpies to needing to call my shrink?? Ok, I’m done. 😅
