*The following is for informational purposes only* First and foremost I have an autoimmune disease. Everything I do on a daily basis is to mitigate the complications that come along with it. My daily life is dedicated to keeping my chronic inflammation at bay. It is not elective but necessary in order to live a long, healthy life. Please know that I am sharing what works for me. I am under the care of a functional medicine doctor. I have routine blood & saliva tests is to help guide what vitamins, supplements, and peptides work best for me. Diet: No gluten (Haven’t had any in 24 years. That is wheat, barley, rye, and oats if they are cross contaminated). Mostly no dairy (I can eat some hard cheese but milk & ice cream are no bueno) Limited alcohol (I have maybe two adult beverages a month and they a yummy fresh craft cocktails) Lots of fresh meals. We cook lunch and dinner almost every day. I am a protein girlie. So lots of salad with protein (chicken, beef, salmon). Water: This one is hard for me. I love ice tea and hate just plain water. But, hydration is vital so I will juice a whole orange into my water. Exercise: I fiercely dislike the gym so I dance instead. Salsa, Bachata, Merengue. A night of dancing can equal 5-7 miles! Sleep: At least 8 hours a night. If I feel restless due to pain, I use THC pain cream. I have a *card* from my doctor). I listen to binaural beats and sometimes wear a migraine compression mask. Supplements: Liquid vitamin d drops, liquid b vitamin drops, three different creams for menopause (wild yam for progesterone, testosterone-made from soybeans, and estrogen), I am also on week 4 of a specific injectable peptide for inflammation. I get glutathione shots as well. Bi-weekly EMDR therapy Bi-weekly massage Chiropractor as needed #over50 #over50women #exercise #diet #menopause #supplements #sleep #aginggracefully #aging

T+339 (7.31.24): Another part of the CIPHER study involves understanding ways to mitigate muscle atrophy in microgravity and the impact this has on functional strength. Exercise scientists at NASA use various tools to study this, and this is one of them. It’s called an isometric mid-thigh pull (IMTP), and here’s how it works: you stand on top of a force plate, zero/tare the scale, and then pull as hard as you can against an immovable object—in this case, the barbell, which is strapped down. The IMTP is well-studied in exercise science because it’s standardized, time-efficient, technique-agnostic, and safer than a 1-rep max. These results will be compared with mid-thigh pulls in space at various times, as well as post-flight after the mission. The important metric for NASA is not the total force one can generate, but the changes in total force that one can generate across different environmental and gravity factors.
