Cell division is the biological process by which a parent cell divides into two or more daughter cells. It is essential for growth, development, repair, and reproduction in living organisms. Phases of Mitosis: Interphase (Pre-mitotic phase): Cell grows, DNA replicates. Not a part of mitosis but crucial. Prophase: Chromosomes condense. Nuclear envelope breaks. Spindle fibers form. Metaphase: Chromosomes align at the metaphase plate (equator). Anaphase: Sister chromatids separate and move to opposite poles. Telophase: Chromosomes de-condense. Nuclear envelope re-forms. Cytokinesis: Cytoplasm divides. Two identical daughter cells are formed. Result of Mitosis: 2 diploid (2n) cells Genetically identical to parent cell 🧬 2. Meiosis: Occurs in two stages: Meiosis I (Reduction Division): Homologous chromosomes separate. Result: Two haploid cells (n) Meiosis II (Similar to Mitosis): Sister chromatids separate. Result: Four haploid daughter cells Result of Meiosis: 4 haploid (n) cells Genetically different from each other and parent cell Credits:-@singlecellanimation #celldivision#mitosis#meiosis#biology#genetics#chromosomes#cellcycle#sciencelover#biologystudent#cellstructure#microscopy#nucleardivision#cytokinesis#cellbiology#sciencefacts#biotech#dnareplication#celltheory#studybiology#educationposts#medicalstudent#sciencenerd#lifescience#geneticdiversity#growthandrepair

Mitosis (normal cell division) as part of the cell cycle. Mitotic stages (interphase, prophase, metaphase, anaphase, telophase and cytokinesis) in onion root tip cells. DNA replication occurs at interphase during the so-called S phase (S = synthesis). This stage is followed by the G2 phase (G=gap) during which structures required for division begin to assemble. At interphase the chromosome material is dispersed within the nucleus and the nuclear membrane (envelop) is intact. Mitosis is announced in plant cells by the appearance of a circular pre-prophase band that consists of microtubules (not shown). A flat sheet of cytoplasmic strands (called phragmosome = partition body) is formed in the center of vacuolate cells, which helps the nucleus to migrate to a central position. Mitosis starts with prophase, a process during which the nucleus looses its membrane (nuclear envelop) and chromosomes spiralise. As chromosomes become shorter and thicker they appear first like threads (mitos = thread) and later like distinct rods. The chromosomes consist each of two sister chromatids attached together at their centromere (centromere = central part). #CellCycle #Mitosis #OnionRootTipCells #Interphase #Prophase #Metaphase #Anaphase #Telophase #Cytokinesis #DNAReplication #ChromosomeStructure #Microtubules #ActinFilaments #Kinetochore #CellPlate #celldivision

Dr. Bruno Vellutini's (@bruvellu ) winning video in Nikon's 2024 Small World in Motion competition captures the mesmerizing "mitotic waves" in the embryo of a fruit fly (Drosophila melanogaster). Filmed using light sheet microscopy at 20x magnification, it reveals the rhythmic cellular divisions and tissue movements essential for proper embryonic development. This research offers insights into biological processes that mirror human development, with implications for studying diseases like cancer Repost -@nikoninstruments Follow us @bioscoolya 💚 And Be a part of our passionate biology community! 🌟🌟 #nikon #small #smallworld #science #biology #bioscoolya #nikon #competition #2024 #nikonsmallworld #nikonphotography #microscopic #embryo #fruitfly #mitosis #video #reelsinstagram #cancer #development #research #microscopy #lifescience #life

Mitotic cell division stages in onion root tip cells.🧅 The stages of onion root tip cell division typically include interphase, prophase, metaphase, anaphase, and telophase. During interphase, the cell prepares for division. In prophase, the chromatin condenses into visible chromosomes. Metaphase is marked by the alignment of chromosomes along the cell's equator. Anaphase involves the separation of sister chromatids towards opposite poles. Finally, telophase concludes with the formation of two daughter nuclei. To prepare a slide to view onion root tip cells under a microscope, follow these steps: 1. Obtain a small section of an onion bulb. 2. Using a sharp razor blade or scalpel, carefully slice off a thin piece of the onion root tip. 3. Place the thin slice of onion root tip onto a clean microscope slide. 4. Add a drop of water or a staining solution (like iodine) to the onion root tip slice to enhance visibility of the cells. 5. Gently place a coverslip over the onion root tip slice to flatten it and prevent it from drying out. 6. Wipe away any excess water or staining solution from the edges of the coverslip. 7. Carefully observe the prepared slide under a microscope, starting with the lowest magnification and gradually increasing it to observe the cells in detail. 🎥Source:- https://youtu.be/Hm4NtlTEqfA?si=OrNopvrJ7IRq8ioj Follow @biotech.symposium to Learn daily!

Mitosis is the fundamental process that keeps your body growing, repairing, and functioning. It’s how a single mother cell divides to form two genetically identical daughter cells, ensuring tissue regeneration and stability. The 4 phases of mitosis include: 🔹 Prophase – chromosomes condense, the mitotic spindle forms, and the nuclear envelope dissolves. 🔹 Metaphase – chromosomes align at the metaphase plate, preparing for equal division. 🔹 Anaphase – sister chromatids are pulled apart to opposite poles, ensuring each new cell gets an identical set of chromosomes. 🔹 Telophase – chromosomes decondense, the mitotic spindle breaks down, and nuclear envelopes reform, creating two nuclei. Cells like skin cells divide frequently, allowing wounds to heal quickly, while neurons rarely undergo mitosis, making nerve damage harder to repair. Mistakes in mitosis can lead to genetic mutations, contributing to conditions like cancer. . . Amazing and stunning animation by - @voka.io . . Which phase of mitosis do you find most fascinating? Chromosomes separate during the anaphase stage of mitosis. The sister chromatids of each replicated chromosome are pulled apart by the mitotic spindle to opposite poles of the cell. This ensures that each of the two new daughter cells receives a complete and identical set of chromosomes. by wehi.tv (yt) #cellbiologylab #cellmigration #developmentbiology #biology #biomedical #celldivision

Um vídeo de uma divisão por Mitose.😍 . 📲@sciencesourcestock Cell Division by Mitosis, Time-lapse Time-lapse fluorescence microscopy footage of a cell dividing through mitosis. Mitosis is the process by which eukaryotic cells duplicate themselves, forming two identical cells. This cell has been transfected with a fluorescent label to the histone H2B, which is concentrated in the cell's chromosomes. At this stage, the chromosomes have already been duplicated, and they are seen to split into two pairs, which are pulled to opposite sides of the cell. This is followed by a separation of the cell membranes (cytokinesis), leading to the formation of two identical daughter cells. After separation, the chromosomes decondense back into their normal, non-mitotic form. Click on the link in our bio for this video and more science/medical images (and video!). © Dr Clifford Barnes, University of Ulster / Science Source Science Source ID #: SS254730 #mitosis #celldivision #division #cell #cells #mitotic #mitoticdivision #chromosomes #chromosome #reproduction #timelapse #cytokinesis #cellbiology #histology #fluorescence #microscopy #sciart #scienceart #alwayslearning #scienceteacher #science #biologyteacher #biologist #2b #h2bhistone #sciencevideo #stockvideo #homeschoolscience #stockphoto #stockphotography
