ADLet’s debunk some common misconceptions about Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) with Lisa, our head of decongestive therapy at The Roxbury Institute in Salt Lake City!
1️⃣ MLD is just a regular massage: False! MLD is a specialized technique designed to stimulate the lymphatic system, not just relax muscles.
2️⃣ You only need MLD if you have swelling: Not true! MLD can support lymphatic health even without visible swelling.
3️⃣ More pressure means better results: Actually, gentle, rhythmic movements are key, and too much pressure can harm lymphatic flow.
4️⃣ One session of MLD is enough to fix everything: MLD works best when done consistently, as part of ongoing care.
5️⃣ MLD can permanently get rid of Lipedema fat: Unfortunately, no. While MLD doesn’t eliminate Lipedema fat, it can be incredibly beneficial after Lipedema surgery to reduce swelling and support healing.
