Me made May phase two wrap up! It’s been fun to document all my favorite makes over the last month, but it’s way more fun to actually make the things. I’m still working on narrowing in on my style (your clothing options expand tremendously once you learn how to sew!), but I feel like it’s been really helpful to pull out old makes and figure out why I don’t wear them, and figure out which ones I love and should emulate. A few sewing plans based on my last month of me made wearing: 1) I need more pants! I’m really happy with my #persephonepants and I think I will make another pair of those and I will try my hand at the adam’s pants. 2) I love my midi length #demeterdress and I should make 100 more. This was my most worn make because it can be style one million different ways. I recently had a go at sewing the reworked Vintage Butterick B6055. It’s a real 50’s style dress - the main feature is the beautiful pockets with bows - which is the real reason I bought the pattern! To he honest this fabric wasn’t quite right for the dress. I should have chosen something much firmer to give structure. However, I’d generously been given this stunning Merchant & Mills Indian cotton and I really couldn’t wait to use it! 🎁 The construction of the bodice was particularly tricky, and the instructions were hard to follow so I found it quite a challenging make. Unfortunately, the dress came out very large and so I had to take off the skirt, re-cut the bodice and sew it all back together again 😩 This is the MAIN reason for doing a toile everyone!! You get the fit right properly! 😂😂 Never mind! I ploughed on and managed to finally get the dress to fit. Strangely, it’s turned out to to be a bit like the #mmfactory dress but with added bow pockets! I’m actually pretty pleased with the result. The blue bows are the perfect accent, and I’ll enjoy wearing it. However. It does need to be belted because without the cinching in at the waist it’s a little bit shapeless. I took the dress on its first public outing this weekend to a friend’s birthday in beautiful Kent. The apples are out of this world at the moment.
