MOAB ITINERARY ⬇️ ✨If you were visiting Moab, Utah for a weekend getaway, this is exactly what I would tell you to do. New here? I’m Mallory — a Southwest local with 10 years of exploring and hiking this region. I share Southwest hikes, trip planning tips, and stops for your bucket-list trip. Follow @hello_mallory for more. Nestled in the heart of Utah’s Red Rock Country, Moab is one of my favorite destinations in Utah, although living only an hour away, I’m pretty biased. Adventures are limitless, and if you were visiting Moab for the weekend, this is what I would recommend to you as a Southwest local. Day 1️⃣ • Arrive in Moab and check-in to your hotel • Stop for a quick photo-op at the Greetings from Moab mural (corner of W 200 N and Main St on the side of Bowel Motel) • Grab dinner from the Food Truck Park • Head to Dead Horse Point State Park for sunset Day 2️⃣ Arches National Park • Get to the park before 7am for Delicate Arch sunrise (3.3 mi RT) • Pack meals and snacks to maximize daylight • Hike Devils Garden Primitive Loop (8 arches in one hike, 8 miles RT or can do out and back to Double O for 4 miles RT) • Stop at Sand Dune Arch (0.3 mi RT) Optional hike to Broken Arch (1.8 mi RT) • Finish at the Windows Section: Double Arch, Turret Arch, and the Windows • Sunset at North Window — one of the best sunset spots in the park Day 3️⃣ Canyonlands National Park • Avoid Mesa Arch crowds with sunrise at Shafer Trail Overlook • Head to Mesa Arch afterward for golden light and few crowds • Scenic overlooks: Grand View, Orange Cliffs, Green River • Quick hike at Aztec Butte (2 mi RT) • Optional add-ons before leaving: Corona Arch (3 mi RT) and drive Potash Road or Fisher Towers (4 mi RT) and drive Highway 128 🌵 Have you been to Moab? What else do you recommend to a first time visitor?

With the new entry fee rules, these spots might be your perfect alternative 😍 If you love such content and want to see more amazing destinations, follow @peekinourjournal to get more itineraries and destination ideas ❤️ The Mighty Five National Parks dominate Utah’s highlights. Here is a list of some equally impressive places which we absolutely loved and are not inside these national parks 😮 🌈 Bentonite Hills- A stunning display of colors makes this spot really special. It is nearby NASA’s Mars Desert Research Station in Hanksville 🛻 Marlboro Point- This amazing hidden gem is accessible via a 4x4 if you want to make it all the way to the point. You can opt to park around 0.4 mile away if you are more comfortable with that 🪨 Factory Butte- This otherworldly monolith is 6,300 ft or 1,920 m high and you can drive very close to it with a bit of off roading 🚘 Potash Road- Stunning drive going through a beautiful red rock canyon with massive red rock wall on one side and the Colorado River on the other 🏜️ Goblin Valley State Park- Dense hoodoos define the surreal landscape of this beautiful park. A $20 fee is required for this state park 🌘 Moon Overlook- Also called Moonscape Overlook or Skyline Rim Overlook, this spot will really make you think you’re on the moon 🐎 Dead Horse Point State Park- One of the best sunrise we have ever seen was inside this park. The warm light of the sunrise illuminates the red rocks with a striking red glow. We highly recommend a visit here 🗼 Long Dong Silver- A strikingly beautiful Spire in Hanksville, Utah. Requires ~1 mile hike to reach this spot . . . . . #utah #utahroadtrip #visitutah #moab #usaroadtrip

Would you drive your van down the craziest road in a national park? 📍Shafer Trail, Utah The Shafer Trail connects the Island in the Sky District of Canyonlands National Park to Potash Road and descends 1,500’ over some very steep and tight switchbacks. We can’t recommend driving this trail enough, but there are a few things to know: * The road starts in Canyonlands National Park, so make sure that you have your America the Beautiful pass or pay the daily entrance fee. * We recommend driving from the top (from Canyonlands) down to Moab. That way, you’ll get the best views of the road before you descend. If you drive it from the bottom up, you won’t really see the road till you’re at the top. * High-clearance 4x4 is recommended for this unpaved road, especially after it rains. * The road is open year-round, but we would personally avoid it if it was wet or covered in snow. * It is VERY narrow in some sections. We drove it on a weekday early in the morning, and didn’t see anyone till we got closer to Moab. The earlier you can get on the trail, the less traffic. * The whole adventure is about 40 miles and will take 2-3 hours from the top all the way down into Moab. Save this for your next trip to Moab! #vanlife #utah #moab #offroad #overland

You NEED to see this sunset once in your life 🌅 Send this to someone that you’d love to experience a sunset here with ➡️ Follow @wanderlusttravelcouple for more bucketlist travel and National Park inspo 👩🏽‍🤝‍👨🏼 Welcome to Green River Overlook 😍 This is inside of Canyonlands National Park📍 Canyonlands is easily one of the most underrated parks in the U.S. 🏜️ With Arches National Park being just a short distance away this one often gets overlooked. Even if you only have a short amount of time… viewpoints like this make it so worth a quick stop 🚗 While there’s no hiking required to get to the main viewing platform… there is a short walk to get to this exact spot you see here. When you are at the main viewpoint… just look off to your right and you will see the trail (down a few steps) that will lead you here 🥾 Remember to always leave no trace! Pack out what you bring in and always try to leave it better than you found it 🚮 Be sure to add this place to your bucket list and save this post for your next southwest road trip ⤵️ #NationalPark #Utah #Moab #CanyonlandsNationalPark #BeaUtahful

Most people leave Canyonlands National Park the same way they came in… but there’s actually a wild backroad that takes you all the way to Moab. It’s called Shafer Trail, and it drops over 1,500 feet from Island in the Sky down a series of dramatic cliffside switchbacks. At the bottom, the trail connects to Potash Road, which follows the Colorado River back toward Moab. Instead of the normal highway drive, you get towering canyon walls, desert scenery, and one of the most unforgettable drives in Utah. The total drive is about 40-45 miles and half of it is off road/dirt road. A few important things to know: • You need a high-clearance 4 wheel drive vehicle (according to NPS) • The road is narrow with steep drop-offs in places • Rain can make it impassable • Always check conditions (or talk to someone at the visitor center) before attempting it It’s easily one of the coolest ways to exit Canyonlands. Would you take the backroad? #usnationalparks #canyonlandsnationalpark
