if you’re trying to break into modeling, save this for later! tip 1 – proper digitals Digitals are key. They show casting directors, agencies and brands you most basic look. You’re going to need close up photos of your face, profiles, full body, and half body shots. Just clean, natural light, plain background, and confidence. Those photos get you in the door! You can look on Pinterest for some photo inspo search “model digitals”. You can take them on your cell phone to begin with but I also recommend getting some professional ones done. My first ones are so funny but since I got professional ones I booked many more jobs. tip 2: maintain your marketable look I used to love to dye my hair and change my look often, but with modeling you’re going to keep whatever is most marketable for you. Agencies love consistency. Keep your hair, skin, and nails close to your portfolio photos! It helps them market you easily. I am going to say you have to leave your nails natural (no acrylics), no fake lashes, and if your look is straight hair keep it straight. If it’s curly, maintain that. Just look professional! tip 3: confidence in self tapes! Have self confidence. Work on your inner self to believe in yourself and it definitely shows up on camera. Clients feel your energy through the camera. Even if you’re nervous, fake it till you feel it. After thousands of self tapes I feel so natural and I just perform as me. When I first started I definitely gave off a nervous energy. tip 4: have your at home set up ready to go Have a go-to self-tape setup at home. Good lighting is key and make sure your background isn’t messy. In my home set up you can see some things behind me but it’s not so distracting. tip 5: test shoots + networking Test shoots are so important when you first start out! Work with other photographers and collaborate on ideas. Look at other models portfolios and try to get a good selection of photos with different photographers.
