As the varnish lifts away, the subject—known as the “Woman in Red”—reappears with striking clarity, her expression sharper, her clothing more textured, and her presence far more vivid than before.
Moments like this remind us that historic paintings aren’t meant to look dull or brown with age. They were once bold, colorful, and alive. This restoration doesn’t just clean a surface—it reconnects us with how people in the 17th century originally saw this portrait, preserving its beauty for generations to come.
