Pine Needle Magic: Weaving Nature's Treasure into Art 🌲✨ Ever looked at those fallen pine needles under a tree and thought, "Hmm, I could make something with those?" 😄 You totally can! These humble, slender gifts from nature are fantastic for creating beautiful, earthy handmade crafts. It’s a wonderful way to connect with nature and make something unique with your own two hands. One of the coolest and most popular things to make is pine needle basketry. Yes, actual baskets! 🧺 By coiling and stitching the needles together, often with a sturdy thread or sinew, you can create stunning baskets of all shapes and sizes. This form of handmade artistry is not only functional but also deeply satisfying. Each coil is like adding a sentence to a story written by nature. But don't stop there! This natural material is super versatile. You can dip the tips in wax to make simple, aromatic fire starters for your next camping trip. Or, get really creative and fashion them into tiny decorative brooms, rustic dream catchers, or even delicate coasters by embedding them in resin. The possibilities are endless for your DIY creations! The best part? You're turning something often seen as yard waste into a beautiful piece of artisanal work. For a simpler project, try making jewelry. Small, coiled pine needle pieces can become gorgeous, one-of-a-kind pendants or earrings. It’s a perfect introduction to this craft. As you work with the needles, their subtle, fresh scent will transport you straight to the forest. 🍃 So, the next time you're on a walk, grab a handful of dry, long pine needles. A whole world of rustic, beautiful, and sustainable handcrafted projects is waiting for you to explore. It’s more than just a craft; it’s a way to bring a piece of the peaceful woods into your home. Happy crafting! 🥰 #PineNeedleCraft #EarthyDIY #NaturalArt #SustainableCraft #RusticCreations

Weave a couple of rows with me 🌞🪡🧶 If you'd like to learn how to do this, instruction manuals are available on my website ✨ Class 1 Off-Loom Weaving covers how to prepare a warp about a solid base, and how to weave into it with needle and thread, focusing on the simple twill structure which can be used on its own to create a diagonal pattern, or a zig zag, a dogtooth, and a colourful check! For more info on instruction manuals visit: https://www.larkandbower.com/materials-and-learning Or click the link in my bio and select 'Materials & Learning' All you need is a four sided base to weave around, some yarn, a needle and some scissors. Double sided tape can help in the beginning. For the base, anything that has four straight sides, that is strong enough to support threads being wrapped both ways is good - tiles, wood, coasters, perspex, even old books or CD covers make great bases! You can use any yarn for this craft - but I would suggest avoiding stiff yarns (garden twine does not work well) and also stretch yarn does not work well. Wool, cotton, linen, silk, any thickness. I would also suggest not going for something too thin for your first go, we can work up to that. No prior experience of weaving is required, this craft is suitable for beginners! #offloomweaving #offloom #twill #overandunder #underandover #weaving #woven #pinkandred #redandpink #gingham #ginghamtwill #craft #needleandthread #needleweaving #needlepointweaving #needlework

I commissioned this solid sterling silver weaving needle way back in November. But due to taking it easy in December and then making a million frames…this is my first time using it! I absolutely adore it @glasstower.jewellery , it’s making me feel very fancy while I sit here and work in my PJ’s! Here’s a simple mending method to prolong the life of your garments: I’ve had these jeans for many years, and have many mended little holes over time. This particular hole was between the legs, so I thought I’d opt for a subtle, time-honoured mending method. Here’s what I did: 1. Using a double sided fusible webbing, I ironed on a piece of firm cotton fabric on the reverse of the hole. I made the fabric quite a bit larger than the hole, and cut away a circle a little larger than the hole from the fusible web (so I can trim and tidy the hole without catching the patch fabric in the next step); 2. On the right side trim the loose and frayed threads from around the hole. I then like to mount the garment in a small hoop for the needle weaving that will follow; 3. Using a cotton thread (here I’m using stranded cotton), work Buttonhole Stitch around the hole, stitching through both layers of jeans and cotton patch fabric. Try to turn under the edge of the denim as you stitch if you can; 4. Using a dressmaker’s chalk pencil (I’m using my favourite @clovermfg chalk pencil), mark a circle around the hole (or you can pick another shape that takes your fancy). Make the shape a little bigger than the hole; 5. Using a couple strands of thread, work a series of long stitches over the hole. Bring your knotted thread up on one side, go down on the opposite side, then bring your needle up a small distance from where you just went down into the fabric, and continue on in this way. I like to start from the middle of the shape, then work outwards one way, finish off that thread, start with a fresh thread, beginning in the middle again, then work the other way. Try to keep these stitches parallel, and just far enough to accommodate the thickness of the thread that will be woven in the opposite direction in the next step; I’ll continue with the instructions in the comments 🤗🪡♥️! #needleweaving #visiblemending #mendandmakedo #thekraftymobile
