Watch as Dr. Matt Johnson, DPT, takes us step by step through an Electromyography (EMG) and Nerve Conduction Velocity (NCV) test—a powerful diagnostic tool for nerve and muscle health! Here’s what to expect during the test: ⚡ NCV (Nerve Conduction Study): Small electrodes are placed on your skin, and a mild electrical impulse stimulates your nerves. This measures how quickly signals travel, helping detect nerve damage or dysfunction. 💪 EMG (Electromyography): A fine needle electrode is inserted into specific muscles to record electrical activity. This helps determine muscle health and whether nerve issues are affecting muscle function. Why get an EMG/NCV test? ✅ Identifies nerve compression (like carpal tunnel syndrome) ✅ Detects muscle disorders (like ALS or muscular dystrophy) ✅ Helps diagnose nerve injuries from conditions like sciatica or neuropathy ✅ Guides treatment plans for better recovery If you’re experiencing numbness, tingling, weakness, or pain, an EMG/NCV test could provide the answers you need! 📍 Follow Dr. Matt Johnson, DPT, for expert insights into nerve and muscle health @neuromusculardx #EMG #NCV #Neuropathy #NerveHealth #PhysicalTherapy #DrMattJohnson #DiagnosticTesting

Saw this test on the internet posted by a neurologist, so I had to give it a try! It was hard to hold my phone and record myself + do this at the same time. But I did it!!! Did you pass? I also just want to say that this is not a valid diagnostic tool by itself, and if you can’t do it, that doesn’t mean you will have Alzheimer’s or a stroke - there wasn’t enough time on the screen to say that, so I’ll expand 👇🏻 Basically this tests your fine motor skills which is an indicator of cognitive function & neurological decline as it tests how well different regions of your brain work together to complete this specific task! Anyway, just for fun! But thought I’d share! Happy Sunday everyone #neuro #alzheimers #brainhealth #finemotor #stroke

Try this 5 second test for your brain!🧠✨ The “pinky finger test” refers to a variety of tests involving finger movements, particularly those requiring dexterity, that can be used to assess cognitive function and potentially detect early signs of neurological conditions like dementia or stroke. It’s not a single, standardized test but rather a general term for tests that evaluate hand function and fine motor skills 📢If you’re someone that found this challenging, incorporate this into your daily routine and start practicing everyday! • • • #brain #health #challenge #antiaging #alzheimers #mentalhealth #braintraining #functionalmovement #focus #wellbeing #healthtips

A nerve conduction study measures how fast electrical signals travel through your nerves to detect damage or compression. Sticky electrodes are placed along the skin, and a brief electrical pulse stimulates the nerve while a computer records how quickly the signal moves. Healthy nerves transmit signals rapidly, while slower speeds may indicate irritation, injury, or conditions like carpal tunnel syndrome. #NerveConductionStudy #Neurology #NervePain #3DMedicalAnimation #MedicalAnimation #PatientEducation #MedicalTesting

Let’s talk nerves ⚡️ EMG (Electromyography) and Nerve Conduction Studies (NCS) test how well your nerves and muscles are communicating. Here’s what they evaluate: 🧠 Nerve function – how well electrical signals travel through a nerve 💪 Muscle activity – how muscles respond when the nerve sends a signal 📍 Location of nerve irritation or compression – pinpointing exactly where the issue is ⚡ Severity of nerve damage – whether the nerve is mildly irritated or more significantly affected It’s commonly used to diagnose things like: • Pinched nerves (from the neck or back) • Peripheral nerve entrapments (carpal tunnel, cubital tunnel, etc.) • Radiculopathy (nerve root irritation) • Muscle disorders • Nerve injuries Grateful for the opportunity to spend the weekend with students from FGCU, sharing how powerful EMG can be in understanding the nervous system and getting patients the answers they need. 💪🏻 #EMG #NerveConductionStudy #PhysicalTherapy #changinglives

A nerve conduction test is one of the most useful ways to check whether a nerve problem is coming from compression, damage, inflammation, or a more general neuropathy. It helps us measure how fast and how strongly electrical signals travel through the nerves, so symptoms like numbness, tingling, weakness, burning pain, or muscle wasting can be traced to the right cause instead of being guessed at. It is especially important when people have symptoms in the hands, feet, arms, or legs that keep getting ignored as “just weakness” or “just vitamin deficiency.” Nerve conduction studies can help detect conditions such as carpal tunnel syndrome, diabetic neuropathy, vitamin-deficiency neuropathy, thyroid-related neuropathy, Guillain-Barré syndrome, focal nerve injuries, and other peripheral nerve disorders. When needed, it is often done along with EMG to separate a nerve problem from a muscle problem and to understand how severe the issue is. For a reel, the main message is simple: don’t delay testing when symptoms are persistent. Early testing gives a clear diagnosis, helps guide treatment, and prevents the mistake of treating the wrong problem for months. Nerve conduction studies tell a story—if you know how to read them. In this video, I walk through how I review and interpret a nerve conduction test and what the results actually mean for diagnosing nerve injury and deciding when surgery may help. Understanding the data behind the diagnosis is critical to treating patients with peripheral nerve problems. What questions do you have about nerve conduction studies or nerve injury diagnosis? Let me know in the comments—I may cover them in a future video. #PeripheralNerve #NerveSurgery #NerveInjury #Electrodiagnostics #NerveConductionStudy HandSurgery
